B1G wants to play ball April to August; Make Fall Ball count

The Big Ten is discussing moving to a schedule where conference play begins in April and concludes in August. Apparently the discussion is coming because of schools like Minnesota and Michigan whose weather conditions aren't typically conducive to baseball in February.

The conference is also preparing a petition to the NCAA that would allow up to 14 games to be played in the fall. These games would count as part of a team's record.

I hate that this is being headed up by evil Big 10 money, but this is something that should be done. The college baseball season is silly how it is set up right now.

That would be foolish. No way the bottom half of the NCAA would go for that during the summer. No way MLB would go for that with the summer leagues in place like Cape Cod.

Also if they play early fall they would play second fiddle to not just football, but men's/women's soccer, volleyball, NASCAR, etc. Not a good idea. What this sport needs to do to keep people interested like me is fo back to the 1999 era bats. I'd watch gorilla ball but with these bats they have now some 5'9'' second baseman comes to bat and the OF is shallower than what you see on T-ball diamonds. Just horrible.

I would love to see college baseball played in the summer instead of the winter.

More fans would be attracted to college baseball if it was played in the summer. These winter months up this way are bitter cold in most winters. Not really this year, but in past years, it's unbearable to be out there for 3 hours and watch a game. The season should be moved to the summer months. It's more enjoyable to the fans, and they don't have to sit in the cold. You can sit in the sun and enjoy a nice day of baseball without worrying about freezing to death.
