2nd half Rice really showed why he is one of the better Freshman in the MVC. We had Austin Hill on him. Hill is by far one of the stronger (strength wise) guards in the MVC and Rice was able to get to the basket at will and he started hitting his free throws.
I hope VanDeest is alright. It didn't look good when he went down.
It was a re-aggravation of the same injury that kept Van Deest out of the 1st DU-ISU game. To be honest, I think Van Deest has been fighting multiple injuries all season.
The injury situation at Drake is almost getting ridiculous:
Van Deest (starting 5) has been playing hurt all season, and didn't play at all in the second half.
Jordan Clarke (starting 4) missed about 10 games with a broken elbow, and isn't 100%
Frank Wiseler (starting 1) has missed the last 8-10 games with an achilles injury. He wasn't close to 100% even when he was playing.
Karl Madison (freshman point guard) has missed the entire season with two injured ankles.
Jeremy Jeffers (freshman wing) has missed all but the first 7-8 games of the season with a knee injury.
Aaron Hawley (soph. forward, 6th man) missed the game with a hip injury.
All these injuries actually helped today in a strange way. Phelps was trying to keep everybody happy, and was doing way too much subbing. In the 2nd half today, he had so few players that he couldn't oversub.
