It's expected for each team to drop the lightweights. The P6's drop the mid/low majors and the mid/low majors drop D2 opponents. You may think it's not fair but the MVC teams are doing the same thing just to a different tier of teams.

Big Sky released its schedule.
https://s3.amazonaws.com/sidearm.sites/ ... hedule.pdf

All games on Thursday/Saturday/Monday. Season starts 12/29.

Move it up a week to accomodate Arch Madness, plug in MVC teams + Murray into this matrix, and no reason this couldn’t work with markedly tighter geography.

Just exempt 1-3 MVC teams from playing 12/22. This would allow Loyola to maintain their game with St Joseph’s.

The imaginary problem of other sports is the reason. Leagues with much less money have figured it out but the 8th biguest basketball conference cannot. I think it's more a problem of how the mvc is run.

Big Sky doesn't have a tv contract like the MVC does either. It's lot easier to schedule games on Thursday, Saturday and Monday when tv isn't involved. ESPN, FSN Midwest and CBS Sports Network isn't going to want games just on those 3 days. MVC schools aren't going to want to give up prime Saturday/Sunday games for attendance either.

I reiterate... I think it's more a problem of how the mvc is run.

We're still debating following the Big Sky? This isn't something we can just flip a switch and do. TV Contracts, the Officiating consortium, off campus rented arenas and several other reasons make this something that would take a couple years of planning.

The Big Sky has no TV contracts and they can play whenever they want.

The Big Sky is the 4th league priority wise in their officiating consortium and are not at the whim of big time officials schedules, they're getting younger and poorer officials no matter what. The Valley is 2nd priority in our consortium and are constantly working to get as many of the 'big time' guys to do our games as possible.

The Big Sky plays in all University owned buildings and has zero scheduling concerns there. Bradley, Evansville and Missouri State don't have full control over the schedules of the buildings they play in.

Also, The Valley is run very well by a well thought of staff. Look at the number of NCAA events that the league is awarded and asked to assist in helping with. The league is in very good shape and we're going to miss Doug Elgin when he decides to retire. He's very highly regarded nationally.

For me, it's not necessarily about doing what the Big Sky did but the inaction of the MVC.

I think you're thinking baseball for MSU; we own both JQH and HCS, giving us the two largest on campus arenas in the Valley with total control of both.

The way it is currently constructed, the good ole days of 2006 will not be coming back no matter what we do as a conference. It is all tied to money and power. CUSA can do their thing and Big Sky can do their thing. Big Sky will only get 1 bid, and CUSA is in the same boat as us, they will get two if there is an absolute stand out team that doesn't win the conference tourney. I don't mind Mark Adams' plan, but I think the end results will ultimately be negligible.

If you don't know what I am talking about... Father Harry details it here with him.

Do not underestimate the power/possibility of NCAA tourney seeds being improved because of the new scheduling plans by Adams,C-USA and others.A bump of just two seed positions can increase your chance of a tourney win.Odds of getting to the sweet sixteen go up with a higher seed.

Also--where is the status quo getting us? I see no risk or harm in trying this for a while. You can easily go back to your old conference scheduling format.
