DaSilva eligible for MSU

Bears get Tulio Da Silva immediately and will also get Jared Ridder after Dec 15. Addition of a pair of 6'7-6'8 guys will greatly revamp our frontline which got exposed in games vs Nebraska and USC. Got to wonder about the NCAA timing on Da Silva as their slow response cost the kid 5 games including our major tournament ones. Oh well, we weren't gonna be ready for an at -large run anyway, but could definitely now be a tough game in the MVC all year. Da Silva will have 8 games to get ready for league play and the former 4**** South Florida recruit who averaged 10 ppg and 7 rbs there as a freshman immediately becomes our best front court player. By my read this also means we get him for next year as well . Ridder will have only two games prior to conference play, but he will bring more of an outside scoring threat and give us 3 legitimate guys every night joining Keandre Cook [19 ppg] and Jarred Dixon [ 17 ppg] . These moves greatly help our depth as we had only 10 available [one is a w/o] up till now. Could have used another perimeter guy [Tyrik Dixon] but Ridder will play the wing some. Be interesting to see what the frontline looks like in a couple weeks; will definitely allow us not to have to expose S. Wojcik as much and give him a more reasonable learning curve . Part of problem has been Church having a bum knee, and while playing, his explosiveness around the rim, which is his whole game, has been hampered alot. If we start getting 10 and 6 from Da Silva and double figures from Ridder to go with Dixon and Cook, we will be pretty decent . But again, it's all house money this year as Ford builds his program.

This was great news. We really needed another inside player. I'm hoping he brings some inside/post scoring. Obi just isn't playing well probably partly due to the injury but injured or not he just doesn't bring much on the offensive end.

Tulio is not a big body , but he is very athletic, active, and can step out and hit a shot as well. His offense is way better than Obi's and he's a similar size and athletic player around the rim. Plus he's had 1.5 years of experience at a similar competition level[ AAC] so it shouldn't take him long to get up to speed. Ridder is just a rs freshman, but a shooter and savvy scoring threat. Basically we're adding a pair of top 150 recruits with some experience; that's just a big lift.
