Sister Jean, Little Mariah meet for Sweet 16 Rematch

2 stars of March Madness meet again as 9-year-old Little Mariah made the trip to see an old friend 99-year-old Sister Jean as Nevada and Loyola replay their 1-point Sweet 16 thriller.

Last spring’s runs have brought in a financial windfall for both schools. Nevada has drawn 10k+ to each home game as they’ve chewed up opponents with 86, 83, 87, 90, 96, and 110 points in 5 double-digit wins. The Wolfpack have surpassed 8k STH’ers in Reno.

Loyola has scored 17% more visitors to its campus, funded a practice facility, and increased STH’ers by 275% while Sister Jean opened a record-breaking bobblehead line and was a special guest of Bill Clinton.

Looks like Loyola has got a tiger by the tail. Down 16 at the half.

Maybe losing Richardson, Jackson and Ingram hurt a bit more than they were expecting this year.

Nevada is a really good team.

Despite being out of it early, I was really impressed with Loyola's effort to compete for the full 40 minutes. The Redbirds have yet to play a 40 minute basketball game, which makes me that more jealous and worried about when we start playing some of these disciplined teams in the next two weeks and into conference play.

Krutwig was off. He missed six shots. How many had he missed all season before last night? Like 4? All of the shots he took were ones we saw went in last year. Custer had an off night as well and Townes kept them afloat with 24 points.

Kaifes seems to have the making to be a good player, but needs to realize if he wants to be well perceived in the MVC, he needs to cut his hair. There is a pretty negative connotation with a hairdo like that. :D

Overall, Nevada looks like they will be Top 10 all year. Loyola looks like they are still figuring out who is going to step up outside of Townes, Custer, and Krutwig. But they have something that is hard to teach: fight and effort. I am not worried about Loyola having a "down year." It's early. They just won't be able to sneak up on teams, no one has forgotten that final four run.

I picked Loyola to win the Valley this year, and I see no reason to change my opinion. They are tough as nails, and will win a lot of Valley games. They just ran into a better team who will also win a lot of games this year.
