This metric rewards winning right? So as long as these teams keep winning their metrics should improve. Maybe not enough for at large bids but perhaps this will encourage mid major ADs and coaches to be more aggressive in scheduling to boost their metrics.
You may even see a flight of top mid-major programs in lower conferences to better leagues to secure better games. In order to take the fight to the big boys mid major conferences may have to embrace expansion and pluck from the top of lower leagues just as they have done to leagues like ours and other leagues my school has historically been a part of.
But my point is despite my earlier frustration that Drake and ISUb's recent wins did not move the needle much it has more to do with performance and inconsistency than anything. Getting blown out is not a good look and both teams have blowout losses on their resume. But the NET does not appear to be overly hostile to Mid Majors
Even after leaving off the AAC and teams everyone saw coming like Gonzaga Nevada and Buffalo here are some of the teams in the top 80:
San Francisco WCC
Lipscomb ASun
Utah State MWC
Belmont OVC
North Texas CUSA
Fresno State MWC
Furman SOCON
Penn IVY
Murray State OVC
VCU A10
UNC-Greensboro SOCON
Wofford SOCON
Charleston CAA
Old Dominion CUSA
Liberty ASun
Toledo MAC
SLU A10
St Mary's WCC
Dayton A10
San Diego WCC
Radford Big South
As you can see there's enough quality in the WCC SOCON MWC A10 and perhaps even the MAC OVC CUSA and ASun to get at least one team beyond the conference favorite into the conversation. We may not have earned that this year but I'm confident we will next year. Go MVC!
