Gerry Pollard is a very good official as are the other two you had tonight (Smith and Heimerman). They wouldn't get the games they get if coaches didn't want them there.
Pollard has always been a well criticized official on this site and in the arenas he works. Heimerman was part of the Drake/UE crew last week that called 3 terrible moving screens in the 1st four plus minutes against UE.
I'm puzzled by the statement that the coaches have a say in the officials the league uses. Explanation?
Coaches send evaluations to the league on all three officials after every game. If they didn't receive consistently good marks, they wouldn't be back. There's a reason that Pollard, Janssen, Higgins, Eades, etc do the Valley whenever the Big 12 hasn't scooped then up. They grade out very well.
I just have a hard time believing the coaches endorse Pollard. He is in their face every game, actively slows the game down with useless monitor reviews, and has been disrespectful to players on the court when they ask him a question. I have less of a problem with the others mentioned except Janssen, who gave Muller a T against Bradley for waving his hands in the air from the other side of the court. Here's the thing about an official, if you are a good one, no one should know your name. It's unfair, but its the way it works. They are always going to piss someone off but they need to understand no one is there to see them. Pollard does not understand this. Watch his theatrics with his block-charges or just his general on-court demeanor. I would be happy if I never saw him again in the MVC. I know its not going to happen but, it'd be nice.
