Drake deserves all the accolades possible. Stellar season and the team played well injury or not. DeVries is a rising star

Nick McGlynn showed improved last year but if POY material. Him or Townes will win it

Being 2 seed in tourney I didnt see but they are there and have round 3 with Redbirds or Aces

All Drake alumni should be proud

DeVries should be unanimous COY, not just for sharing the best conference record, but for assembling the players from almost nothing, getting returnees like McGlynn and Noah Thomas to buy in totally, and overcoming the injury to Norton. That's damn anazing.

But Marques Townes is the MVC POY. When Lucas Williamson went down and Clayton Custer had rough games, Townes kept Loyola from dropping ing out of the race. In Loyola's two wins over Drake, Townes had 28 in the first game (a career high) and 32 in the second game (a new career high).

Yes. Townes averages 30 points against Drake.

So, the *passionate* Townes for MVC player of the year arguments from Rambler fans are weird to me since Krutwig was the best player on the Ramblers for the first two-thirds of the season, including the first half of the conference season...

You're a stupid troll.

Townes led all scorers in the league in conference play by a wide margin. SIU's Fletcher was 2nd, Indiana State's Tyreke Key was third. You have to go down to 6th for Krutwig, and 7th for McGlynn. Townes has succeeded everywhere he's been (HS Championships, getting Fairleigh-Dickenson to the tournament, Loyola in the Final Four, Loyola as Conference Champion in 2019).

Sometimes I feel bad for stupid asshole trolls, and sometimes I ignore their bullshit. I just wanted to point you out for other users of this site as a stupid, disingenuous, asshole troll. God, I hate assholes who try to disguise or discredit the truth.

What's with "passionate" in quotes about Townes?

I guess that's what set me off.

Let's start to recognize some of the slights as what they are.

If Norton doesn’t get hurt, Drake wins a game in the NCAA Tournament and in 12 months goes from 2 players with a D1 point to its best team post-Maury John. (No one will convince me otherwise.)

Happy for all the Drake fans, Larry Morgan, Larry Cotlar’s wife, etc. What a loyal, tight-knit program. They deserve this Darian DeVries golden age.

Its not quotes, its asterisks. I'm not doubting the passion. I just see so many Loyola fans dead set on Townes being POY where, if you asked Valley fanbases outside Loyola, I bet a lot of them would go Krutwig over Townes (myself included).

I'm just confused why the Loyola fanbase seems to favor Townes as much. Seems like he was a bellwether - played great in wins, poorly in losses. Krutwig seemed a more even consistent player. Just my perspective. I didn't watch every Loyola game of course

It is kind of interesting how fan bases see players. We watch most or at least some of all Valley games.

I'm not sure of all the voting rules but I don't believe a coach can vote for his own player.

My wife and I did our voting that way being Drake fans(Couldn't pick Nick McGlynn): interestingly we both came up with Fane. Looking at Loyola as a co-champ we both took Krutwig. This was how we saw it watching the games and not picking our home team player.

To be clear, I would, as a Bulldog fan, go Krutwig over McGlynn and Townes for POY.

I tried every which way to put McGlynn over Krutwig but when you look at everything... Krutwig has the best FG% in the conf, the best O-RB%, is top 10 in points and blocked shots, top 15 in assists, averaged just a point less per game than Townes did on fewer shots, drew more FTs (even if he didn't convert them all well). He leads a whole bunch of rate stats as well (PER, Win Shares, BPM) by a decent amount. I would love to see a try +/-, I bet he leads that too.

Anyway, sorry for derailing this topic. The job DeVries did - twice - is absolutely insane. To pull together all the talent from different corners *and* make it gel together is one thing. To reshuffle it all after you lose your best player and primary distributor halfway through the season is a whole other thing. To do those two separate jobs in the same 12-month period is literally a legendary thing. Hopefully Wilkins is OK and we can go to St. Louis in good health.

As a Drake fan, I think Townes is the best player in the league (maybe his scoring 60 points in 2 games vs the Bulldogs has something to do with that). I've been really impressed with him since last season. It was like Drake in 2008....Emmenecker was POY, but a lot of people (myself included) would argue that he wasn't even Drake's best player. I still think he was Drake's 3rd or 4th best player that season, but it was a cool story.
