Opening Night in Evansville Curse

Postby MissouriValleyUnite » March 3rd, 2019, 12:22 am

In 2015, Northern Iowa fell opening night in Evansville. This proved fatal as the Panthers reeled off 16 in a row before bookending their MVC season with a loss at Wichita in a winner-take-all, top 10 College Gameday matchup.

In 2019, budding Cinderella Drake carried its top 30 RPI to the riverboat city opening night. The league’s best player went down as Drake fell in double overtime. Fast forward 2 months and ONEC had the final laugh.

31-3 teams aren’t immune. 2nd best post-Maury John teams aren’t immune. Keep an eye on if your team opens up in the Valley’s Sin City because the ONEC curse is bound to rob someone of a title again.

Hell, UNIs 2010 Sweet 16 team lost to 3-15 Evansville over there. It's a nightmare for good teams.

Hey at least we got some recognition, I say next year that most Valley teams will have a tough time winning in Evansville.

Winning on the road in the Valley is hard everywhere. This isn't new.

It wasn't hard in Evansville, since they lost 6 of the 9 games there. As GoAces said, it won't be that way next year.
