Binged 8 episodes on weekend roadtrip:
* Intro about how MVC’s charm and midwestern pride attracts followers resonates.
* Deep In the Valley segments ooze nostalgia.
* MVC’s marketing is impressive, whether it’s social media as pointed out, or timeless Arch Madness flashback commercials.
* On the same token, agree that preseason trophy photoshoots are hokey. Trophy should be sacred. Astute point how the Campbell and Wales trophies are never touched until after the Stanley Cup.
* Landing Lindsey Willhite was a big get. Perhaps miscast as Wolves’ PR guy when he’s such a good CBB writer. His story of Tony Barone rooting for WWF wrestlers on hotel room tv with students at MVC tournament was a hoot (side note: totally scouring records to figure who was wrestling).
* Lindsey might’ve worn goggles when insinuating ‘97 & ‘98 as golden years (1 bid) and underscoring ‘06 as Elgin rigging RPI (Valley landed an SI article mid-season, a Bradley SI cover mid-March, and was a committee-putting-AFA-in-San-Diego-to-sell-tickets stunt from registering 5 bids).
* MVC moving final to primetime Monday night wouldn’t increase exposure. ‘18 final was 6th in tv ratings. OTA is invaluable, especially in the age of cord-cutting, and that CBS slot plays a huge advantage over peer leagues (MVC drew 1.765M, WCC drew 877k in ‘18).
* Vance has a natural feel and smoothness to him that could pass as a PBP guy.
Overall, an excellent podcast for Valley fans. Variety of topics, good flow, and feels fresh with water cooler talk between 2 buddies. Will serve as gameday hype on carrides to games.
