MVC Players of the Decade

Postby Adunk33 » December 31st, 2019, 10:40 am

Our friends over at MMM developed a list of all of their (favorite?) players from each MM team. Heres how the MVC shakes up:

Bradley — Walt Lemon (2010-14)
Drake — Reed Timmer (2014-18)
Evansville — Egidijus Mockevicius (2012-16)
Illinois State — Paris Lee (2013-17)
Indiana State — Jake Odum (2010-14)
Loyola Chicago — Donte Ingram (2014-18)
Missouri State — Kyle Weems (2008-12)
Northern Iowa — Wes Washpun (2013-16)
Southern Illinois — Tyler Smithpeters (2013-18)
Valparaiso — Alec Peters (2013-17)

I don't have an issue with Plee representing this list for ILST. Thoughts?

UNI's is Seth Tuttle. It's not close. Washpun was a very good player but was part time his first two years and only played major minutes his last year.

Seth Tuttle is 4th all time in scoring and rebounding and was an All American on UNI's best team ever.

Mind boggling that he's not the choice.

Desmar Jackson, Sean O’brien, Anthony Beane, Armon Fletcher, Kavion Pippen...and they come up with Tyler Smithpeters?

Desmar Jackson carried an overmatched Saluki team (9th/8th/9th/10th preceding 4 years) to the MVC Semifinals and put on a show in STL over UNI. One of the most dominant first halfs ever in that tournament.

The first 3 sentences of the article:

"With the 2010’s coming to close, what better time to shine a light on guys that played college basketball over the last 10 years.

Below is a list of one 2010’s player from every mid-major team. Some may be the program’s best over the past decade, some may not. But without a doubt, all of these guys played for their respective teams."

That is the greatest disclaimer ever and everyone getting internet outraged are the targets of the article.

You named 5 replacements when there easily could be about 20. How about Mike Rod, Shizz Lloyd, Carlton Fay, Jeff Early? That's just off the top of my head right now. There are many others. But the 2010s was easily Beane's decade.

I'm a Bradley fan, but I wouldn't put Walt on an all-decade team. He was a very good (but not a superstar) player on mostly bad teams (except for the on CIT season, but even that was a team just about .500).

He's blown up past graduation though and has been a very good G-League player and gotten some notice with strong NBA performances when he's had the opportunity.

So without reading the article, if what the player eventually becomes after graduation, then he's probably in the conversation. But if based on just what the did at the time, then I don't think he makes the cut.
