SIU Hall of Fame coach Rich Herrin died last night. A legit legend in SIU and southern Illinois high school basketball coaching circles who, along with his staff, brought in a ton of talent to SIU in the late 80s and 1990s (including future NBA players Chris Carr and Troy Hudson, not to mention Ashraf Amaya, Marcus Timmons, etc.). Still the only coach in MVC history to oversee a three-peat at Arch Madness, and even in declining health, a regular at the tournament in recent years. Total basketball junkie. RIP, coach Herrin.
