Devries has won:

-20+ games in each of his first 3 years.
-A conference championship
-The program's first NCAA game in 50 years.

You will find exactly zero Drake fans who are upset that we signed him to an 8 year contract.

It's risk-reward. Commitment always is.

This seems like a no-brainer, given DD's success and what he had to work with when he started. Plus the replacement of Liam, etc.

But I can see how someone would look at ISUr and think, well, commitment isn't always good.

But really, look at Drakes previous 8 years. What is the likelihood that the next 8 would be worse with DD? (Low.)

I have seen enough of Devries to be convinced he is not suddenly going to become a terrible coach. If he does, I'll live with it. I can't imagine anybody in the valley wouldn't take him right now except for Loyola.

That's not the point. No one is saying he isn't a good coach. But you don't need to lock yourself into a contract that long. It is 100% one sided.

A lot of guys don't just become "terrible coaches." They happen to have bad luck on the recruiting trail or swing and miss a few times. Devries isn't immune to this.

Isn't it possible that the contract isn't one sided? I truly think Devries wants to build the Drake program and would have no interest in doing anything that would be detrimental to the program. There still are some people like that in the world.
