Plus those bowls generally give each school a few thousand tickets and reduce the payout by the face value of the tickets. If the FBS school doesn’t sell all its tickets it might return it to the bowl and hopefully the bowl can sell them but those Montgomery type bowls usually don’t sell out.

The MAC schools each gets $850K from their ESPN deal. It’s not bad but you pay production costs out of that and plus you play 4+ games on Tuesdays and Wednesdays in November on ESPN2 or U. Makes it harder to tailgate and sell tickets to out of town fans.

The last NCAA analysis had G5 schools losing like $8 million more per year than FCS. And I think that was before stipends became a thing.

Yeah I did some research awhile back and there's no doubt that G-5 FBS football just like FCS football is a money loser, so you just know that moving forward. It's clear for MSU that the Prez and AD value football and want MSU in position to take advantage down the road if an opportunity presents itself. Who knows if it will; I don't mind the approach of improving our football facilities and kicking a few tires over the next couple years and seeing what happens. I'll get concerned about a moves impact on our basketball programs if and when we do and depending on what that league looks like then; conjecture right now is meaningless. I like the look of what the Valley could be in a few years and think we end up at 14 sometime down the road, and that the last two adds especially could be interesting if we simply bide our time and then see what the fall out for teams in the AAC and others looks like then. When it's all said and done, if a school doesn't make the cut for a P-5/BE membership, the Valley will be sitting pretty as a very attractive next level basketball conference to join, especially for any midwest /mid south school.
