The Tournament of Champions [TOC] in Springfield Mo , arguably the best HS tournament in the country annually, concluded with Paul VI from Fairfield Virginia besting Sierra Canyon and Brony James 72-65 in front of 10,828 fans at JQH arena. The tournament is the highest attended HS tournament with 29,977 fans attending the 3 day 8 team event which usually has 6 of the best HS teams across the country along with 2 local teams . Amazing the interest this event continues to have despite most colleges struggling with attendance themselves these days. The number of future All Americans and NBA players I've watched in this tourney over the years is just crazy , and it's also fun to see all the big time coaches and staff who frequent JQH for those 3 days. Wish we did better in being able to utilize that exposure for recruiting, but it was a nice bonus to have a couple of the teams attend the Wed nite MSU/SIU game .

Springfield also hosted an 8 team prep school tournament at Baptist Bible College last week and got to watch a pair [ Jalen Hampton,6'7 wing, Link Prep/ Jonathan Dunn We are United Prep] of MSU 2022 kids play in that. Hampton[ 6'7 wing] was the MVP and Dunn was very impressive as a 6'8 pf with great athleticism and a high motor.

Where does the money come from this? I'm guessing a big time title sponsor?

,
Yeah, Bass Pro is the major sponsor, plus a lot of other local businesses get involved knowing the history of the tourney and it's success. I'd encourage anyone who likes high level HS basketball to make the trip and attend once . It's a very well run event that while challenged the last 2 years with covid, still is able to get top programs from across the nation year after year, and the community just supports it tremendously . The atmosphere is top level even though for the most part, most of the crowd has no stake in the majority of the teams playing.

If you go to the web site for "Bass Pro Tournament of Champions" it has alot of great archive info on teams, players and games over it's now 37 year history. Teams that routinely play are teams like Monte Verde, OakHill, St Raymonds, Christ the King,White Station, Bishop Gorman , Sierra Canyon etc. In just the last decade or so have seen players like Marvin Bagley, Sharife Cooper, Cam Thomas, Malik Monk, Jayson Tatum,Ben Simmons, Julius Randle, The Balls, Bradley Beal etc.

It really is one of the highlites of the basketball season every year. And depending on schedules, you'll see coaches in the concourse areas from many of the top P-5 programs . Again , well worth the price and time to take it in at least once if you appreciate elite HS teams and talent going head to head.

No; there might have been such tourneys in St Louis though.
