I don't think any of us are terribly surprised that Valpo is where they are but it's Murray that's the killer. Brought enough back where you thought they'd be better and they regressed. Bad deal.
Prohm won exactly two games in his 6th and final year at Iowa State. Both of those wins were against SWAC schools BTW. From the outside looking in, you could argue Prohm's earlier success at Murray was more of just maintaining what Billy Kennedy had built. Easy to do when you are the big fish in the pond.
Seems like Murray did a rush hire with him. Eerily similar to Todd Lickliter. Success at Butler by maintaining what Barry Collier built while being the big fish in the pond. Takes a P5 job in Iowa...falls flat on his face, benefits with a rush hire by a MVC school...and again, falls flat on his face. Rebuilding a MVC program is a hell of a lot harder than maintaining a successful big fish in the Horizon or OVC. At this point, the only difference is Prohm appears to have a personality and a pulse.
There is no doubt he got dealt a much harder hand this time than when he succeeded Kennedy. Just not sure he is the guy who can pull it off.
