Odum will not be preseason POY. He isn't even the best returning point guard in the league. There is another who is the first PG in something like 20 years to lead the league in assists and finish in the top 10 (7th) in scoring. His assist to TO average is much better than Odum's. And, he is going to be a senior. There isn't anything Odum did this year that will garner placing him above Young in any POY voting (other than by ISU media). I doubt Young finishes top 5 - Odum certainly won't.
On top of that, Odum wasn't even the best freshman in the league this year. Do you really think he did anything since the FOY voting that would have voters thinking they should be voting him over McDermott in POY voting? if anything, McDermott's production in the CBI will have only solidified his reputation with those voters - and I don't think McDermott will be preseason POY - although I suspect he will have more votes than Odum.
I think Odum is an outstanding player, but he is not going to be preseason POY.
