Gene Teague Leaves SIU

The associate head coach won't be the only change at SIU this off-season. The Southern Illinoisan is reporting that Gene Teague has been granted a release from his NLI to SIU.

Most have known about Teague leaving for about 2 weeks. His homesickness had more to do with being unable to adapt to country life after being raised in the city. Last summer one of the coaches had to fly to the East coast to talk him into coming back to the 'dale. He did work hard over the summer and lost some weight, but injuries and malaise took its toll and he never reached his potential.

With Teague not playing at the end of the year this is no surprise. It still stings though as the entire future of our program, Booker, Dillard and Teague have all left. And Lowery is still here. :Bam:

Wow.........still more talent leaves SIU than comes in and stays. The Salukis really need a rich benefactor to pay Lowery off and get him on the road. Also hint..............no long term contract at a high dollar amount for your next coach could be a good thing.

The irony is that after losing the 2 previous coaches to the Big 10/12, most fans favored the long term contract at the time. Now that things are not going so well they rue the arrangement, but a deal is a deal. Another example of being careful what you ask for.

Maybe Bruce Weber can poach him too. ;)

Lowery was the smartest guy in the room when they were negotiating his financial future.................I'll give him that much. Still surprised that they are not able to run him out of town though?

A tough break. The Salukis surely do not need any more bad news.
