Since we're only 88 days away from the official start of practice, we thought it would be a good time to begin our MVC basketball preview. Tonight, we'll talk about Drake with Mark Emmert of the Des Moines Register. For those interested, we'll also talk to Chicago Cubs General manager Jim Hendry, who was the head coach of Creighton's 1991 CWS team. Plus, your chance to win a huge grand prize pack with Bluejay Banter trivia.

Catch us from 6-7 p.m. on AM 590, Omaha's ESPN Radio, or online here.

The podcast is up. Or you can listen to it on our Facebook page. Emmert thinks the Bulldogs have a good shot at a top-four finish.

Emmert sounded unsure how to answer a lot of the questions. Since most of the Drake players didn't play in the summer league, it's real hard to get a read on a lot of guys who could be (should be?) key players for the Bulldogs this coming season. Especially the many guys who were injured last season....since none of them played this summer, Bulldog fans have a lot of unknowns.

Biggest questions are:

Who will be the point guard? There are 5 guys who are possibilities, but no clear favorite.

Will Phelps allow his guys to hit the offensive glass, or will we continue to see 5 Drake players sprint back on defense the moment a shot goes up? Unless Phelps has had an epiphany, I think I know the answer to that one.

Will Phelps continue to employ a philosophy that is complete risk-averse, both offensively and defensively?
Again, I think I know the answer. No risk; no reward.
