So Perrault thinks that a conference of "SLU, Dayton, X, Creighton, Marq, Depaul, So. ILL, Wichita St" will form. Umm....not going to happen. There is still 8 Big East basketball schools, so Marquette and Depaul aren't going to need try join some hybrid midwest conference. Even if they lose Notre Dame and Villanova (if they move up in football) from that group, they'll just add a couple A10 schools to that group.

I agree it's unlikely that Marquette would be willing to leave, but the group of teams referenced being in a conference together (SLU, Dayton, X, Creighton, Marq, Depaul, So. ILL, Wichita St) would make a lot of sense. I added Bradley in as a team that would fit into this conference that will probably never exist.

I don't see SIU fitting with the other schools at all, and WSU would even be a stretch. Bradley, Butler, or even Valpo or Evansville would make more sense than SIU.

I agree - didn't see this coming at all. In fact, I thought the ACC was more likely to lose members. The question that will impact college basketball is what does the Big East do now? It could change the landscape entirely and cause issues for the A10 and MVC.

The ACC was proactive and raised the buyout from $13 million to $20 million which will make it unlikely that any team wants to try and leave.

As a 'Noles fan, I like adding Pitt and Syracuse and hope that they don't decide to go to the SEC.

Does anyone find it interesting, check that: Disgusting, that the NCAA indicates that the reason there is no Playoff in Football is because they don't wan't students being away from classes, but it doesn't have an issue with teams being 3 time zones away in the same conference. Playing regular conference road games 1000 miles away midweek seems much more damaging to the players academics than a tourney in which only a few teams compete.
I know, follow the money.

On a positive note:
I listened to Bob Knight speak last night, and he predicted that the NCAA would be completely dismantled and gone in two years. I am hopeful he is correct. They have lost their way.

I agree with you, but if I am not mistaken, the NCAA has no control whatsoever over conference alignment.

And it's also not the NCAA holding back an FBS playoff-it is the BcS conference presidents making that claim about missed class time. Despite the fact that every other level of NCAA football has playoffs and they don't seem to be affected academically.
