Remember in 07-08 when we were in the Vegas Thanksgiving tournament -- with a field that included North Carolina -- and he backed out so that he could take his young team on a foreign trip. We were in the bad Vegas Tournament (Christmas one) the following year. Also in the recent past, we had been in the little brother Hawaii tournament (not Maui). Altman set up the crappy MTE with Iowa State last year, and I would think it might have been a little too late for Mac to get anything going for this year, hence the crappy Iowa MTE. Next year we're in Vegas over Thanksgiving -- Wisconsin, Arizona State -- and the following year in Anaheim, two top-notch tournaments that we didn't even sniff in Dana's last 10 years.

I was just thinking it was too bad that Creighton wasn't in a big event for this season. If the Shox can perform well and CU could have made some noise, the Valley could have gotten some big time national pub.

You're a bit of a drama queen, aren't you? I don't remember anybody saying anything remotely close your statement about Creighton.

I agree with your entire post save the end of the last sentence. Creighton did play in the Orlando tourney which had a pretty good group of schools. Of course, we lost every game....

Yep, forgot about that one. That was a good tournament -- Michigan, Marquette, Xavier. Must have erased it from memory due to the result.

Dana's MTEs

2010 - Iowa State MTE (3 home cupcakes, neutral in DM)

2009 -Old Spice Classic - Orlando (lots of big names....Jays fell flat.)

2008 -Findlay toyota Classic -Vegas (2 home cupcakes, Fresno and Depaul) was this a make up for bowing out of the previous year's tournament?

2007 - I believe this is when we passed on the big Vegas tournament. Legitimate gripe here passing on some big names, UNC was in this field. Hard to say we would gotten any Ws with the boatload of newcomers we had...Stinnet, Witter, Korver, Millard, Woodfox, Lawson, Walker

2006 - Rainbow Classsic (Houston, Valpo, Hawaii) I believe this one had some bigger names drop out but we were already committed. Looks like it has really dropped off the map as it is not being played this year.

Prior to 2006 teams were limited by the NCAA to 2 MTE appearances every 4 years. We did have success in the Guardians Classic (now the CBE Progressive Classic) a few years in the early 2000s beating Ohio State, Notre Dame, Missouri. I would love to see CU in this tourney again soon.
