There is a Mr. Stutz at WSU that might change some minds about this discussion during the upcoming season.

Now that he is practicing against a quick and athletic 7' defensive specialist, Mr. Stutz has some post moves that can actually be described as quick.

Speaking of that other 7' dude at WSU, I would not be a bit surprised to see both Stutz and Orukpe on NBA teams. So far this year - in both film and live action, Stutz looks like a completely different player than he did even at the end of last season. Stutz is WAY ahead of where Egelseder was as a Jr. and looks to be about where Paul Miller was in development as a Sr. Stutz is looking quicker and faster than Miller. I can hardly believe I typed those words after watching Stutz play for 2 years, but he looks different this year. He looks like a legitimate NBA prospect.

Orukpe looks like anything but an NBA prospect right now, but his progress since he got to Wichita has been surprisingly fast. Orukpe can run with a lot of guards, is amazingly athletic for a 7' guy and hasn't quite seen the light of putting forth maximum effort when jumping. His stuffs look like he just made a little hop instead of exploding upwards. I imagine he'll still be progressing by the time he graduates, but the NBA really likes quick, fast, athletic 7' guys with an instinct for blocking shots. He'll go league if for no other reason than someone will want him around a couple of years to see where his development ceiling really is.

Getting back to the original theme of the thread, I'd take a freshman who you could build around. That said I'll go with the wisdom of Coach Zo who has always said Nathan Scheer is the type you build a program around. He probably won't play for money although he might be able to at some level, and he won't woo you with any great physical attributes. He's just a very good basketball player. 6'4-6-5' solid build, long arms, great shot, high basketball IQ. Can play 3 positions, plays hard, does alot of things that contribute to positives on the court. Reminds me of players like the Rick Barrys, John Havlicheks etc., never the best athlete on the court, just the best basketball player.

He'll get 15-20 minutes off the bench as a frosh, move into the starting lineup as a soph. and be the kind of player who fills a stat sheet nightly as a jr/sr.
