Won't he have to sit out 2014-15 and really only have 3 years of eligibility starting in 2015-16 since he has to sit out a year?

Nope. He's sitting out this year...and he happens to be academically ineligable. He effectively misses 2 games.

WSU and coach Gregg Marshall had no input into the issue once it reached the MVC’s eligibility committee. WSU released Hawkins from his letter of intent in March. Marshall declined to say much about the MVC’s ruling.

“It doesn’t matter whether I’m pleased or not,” Marshall said.

Eight other MVC coaches likely possess mixed emotions about the ruling. In 2014-15, they must face an Illinois State team with Hawkins, while WSU will not.

You mean all of the Redbirds fans crying like a bunch of babies and calling Marshall a plethora of unmentionable names was for absolutely no reason? I am beyond shocked.

So he essentially gets to red-shirt except without being able to practice? Why do we even have transfer rules when they can be bypassed by something as ridiculous as the kid being too dumb to even be eligible for school?

He didn't say what his opinion was. He just said it didn't matter whether he was pleased or not, so he basically just dodged the question. Also, it says he didn't have any input once it reached the MVC's eligibility committee, but what about before it reached the MVC's eligibility committee?

The only thing that matters is absolutely what involves ISU, and you are proving it. WSU releases your player, the league committee favors you and you still complain. You are a piece of work.

I'd imagine it was one of these two scenarios. Either he didn't realize Hawkins was going to go to ISU at the time or he was under the impression that the intra-conference transfer rule would be strictly enforced as written in this situation.

Also, I would call my above statement more of a critical reading of the article than a complaint. The article said, "Marshall declined to say much about the MVC’s ruling. “'It doesn’t matter whether I’m pleased or not,' Marshall said." So I stated that he didn't say what his opinion was. He just said it didn't matter whether he was pleased or not, so he basically just dodged the question. In addition, the article said, "WSU and coach Gregg Marshall had no input into the issue once it reached the MVC’s eligibility committee." However, it did not say anything regarding his input into the issue before it reached the MVC's eligibility committee. That is what prompted my question regarding his input before it reached the MVC's eligibility committee.

I would like to also pose another question. The following is Teddy Hawkins' academic history. He attended Dunbar High School in Dayton, Ohio from 2008-2012 before attending Quakerdale Promise Academy in 2012-13. Wichita State is not included in this list. So how is he a Wichita State transfer then? Teddy Hawkins never attended Wichita State, so therefore he did not transfer from Wichita State to Illinois State. So how does the intra-conference transfer rule apply to him?

Because he signed a binding contract when he gave his commitment to WSU. You sign the paper work and it's basically like a job contract. You can get out of it, but you have to pay a penalty for the time and resources that was invested in getting you hired and will be spent on finding your replacement. Or at least that's the best analogy I can devise this late at night.
