At this point just idle speculation by a few MSU fans on the message board. There are similar discussions of possible moves on several other Valley message boards.

I think the negativity, or at least my negativity, stems from the fact that some Bears fans believe that a "move up at all costs" prayer in the Sunbelt is a step up from the MVC/MVFC. I don't see this as a move up. To me, this looks a lot like my wife's YMCA Volleyball team. Sure they are the 5th best team in an 8 team league that competes in the "recreational" division, but they want to go play in the "competitive B" division. The winner of the competitive B division gets to play in a championship against the competitive A division.

Football controls so much, if MSU has the opportunity, they'd be foolish to pass it up.

You are committing to 10 years and losses approaching $30M in making the move, but the long-term benefit and potential will easily outweigh that initial expense, especially when you consider "sports bubble" inflation.

Only $3 million per year? Who is gonna write the check?

While I have no idea as to what the deficit will be, $3 million seems way light to me.
