Does Marshall stay at WSU?

Postby bigdawg » April 4th, 2011, 8:51 am

Now that our seasons are done, the most interesting thing for me to watch is whether there will be any more coaching changes. Most of the jobs are filling up and I'm not sure if Marshall will have many options. Sounds like NC State wants Shaka. Would Marshall be an option for Miami?

If he leaves it will be to either NC State or Mizzou, as it looks right now. Marshall told the local media after the NIT Championship "Welcome Home" event that it would take "an incredible offer" for him to leave.

Seems like Smart is NC States top choice. At this point with jobs filling up the way they are, and the way more and more mid major coaches seem to be staying put I don't see him going anywhere.

I suppose if Miami made a huge offer, but still WSU is a better basketball job than Miami. At this point I just have a hard time seeing him go anywhere.

Miami? Hell no. I personally think Mizzou would be a stretch but that job appears to be taken. NC State would be the only foreseeable option. But even then, I wonder how Marshall would feel as being a "fallback" choice. The fan support is not good. And apparently the NC State fans don't want him and feel they deserve nobody short of John Wooden with all of their grand history and tradition.

I think it's better than 50/50 that Marshall will be coaching WSU next year.

This is one of the rare occurrences in the last 3 years when I've agreed with WSUBaller.

And I hope that Triple-G is back because I think he's one of the top 3 coaching minds in the Valley. (Gregg, Jacobsen, McD)

The fact that he said, "it would take a great offer" kind of makes it sound like he is looking to leave, IMO. He could have just come out and said, no I am not going anywhere because WSU is where I want to be.

But would that be honest? Marshall tells it like it is. A great offer and nobody could blame him. I don't see NCST as a great job and the money being mentioned doesn't strike me as a great offer with everything considered.

Good point. It's kind of a slap in the face saying I'll be here unless I get a better offer somewhere else.

I'm not saying he shouldn't be honest. I'm sure he is being honest, and that's the point. He is obviously looking for new jobs.

He was at least being honest. Basically saying hey I'm happy but I will consider other offers. Good for him not to say, I'm staying or something else that everybody knows is a lie the second it flows from the lips.

I say he is gone, looks like Shaka turned them down and it's Marshall or Cronin.

Hopefully WSU AD E.Sexton isn't as stupid as Missouri's AD and all will be well.
