This is sad and kind of a telling statement on probably many of the BCS schools. My god, you make it to the NCAA tourney championship and as a large state school you can't get 800 students to the game. I bet if WSU or CU got to that game those 800 would have sold.

IMHO those BCS schools who the media all say make the TV ratings don't have quite the rabid fanbases that some other NON BCS schools do. Who knows what kind of TV ratings some non BCS schools would if they were given the same kind of media hype and TV exposure that the BCS schools get.

I've seen where TV ratings for this year's tourney were up and that suprisingly coincides with SEVERAL non BCS schools winning some games and advancing in the tourney. Hmmm....do you think America is tired of watching only the overhyped BCS schools???

So with all their McDonald's All Americans, these supposedly better BCS schools could not knock out alot of the non BCS schools in a win or go home tourney. And now one of the more prominent BCS schools can't even get 800 students to a national championship game. That indeed is telling about the whole BCS setup right now in college hoops. Those same BCS schools will basically not play most decent non BCS programs because...."they have everything to lose and nothing to gain".

Hey, guess what maybe the guard is changing a bit. The non BCS schools have started to prove they can advance in the tourney despite receiving (for the most part) way lower seeds. So that "we have everything to lose and nothing" garbage the BCS schools use when talking about scheduling is getting harder and harder to buy for real college hoops fans in the know. It's being proven more and more that non BCS DESERVE a much better seat at the table.

When CBS starts looking at this year's uptrend ratings (with alot of non BCS schools advancing), maybe they and other national media will start to realize there are MANY schools out there with hoops followings. Maybe people are getting tired of watching the overhyped and underperforming BCS schools.

It's a novel concept, but maybe there might just be a revitalization in college hoops with all kinds of different schools fanbases actually following their own school's teams and not having all the BCS agenda shoved down their throats. Maybe those non BCS fanbases will start thinking ...hey, we've got a shot in the NCAA tourney now that the BCS has been exposed for what it is....a media driven, overhyped bust that is sucking the life out of college basketball.

I disagree with almost everything that you say. Of course I stopped reading when you called tiny UCONN "a large state school." Try small school in the middle of nowhere that barely qualifies as a BCS school.

UCONN has 10 times the students of Evansville.

UCONN has more students than Nebraska, Georgia Tech, Oregon, K-State, Oklahoma State, and probably several other "BCS" schools. It has more students than all of the other public universities in Connecticut put together.

UCONN's campus is less than an hour's drive from the Hartford, CT airport. It is less than three hours drive from Madison Square Garden.

Is UCONN the most impressive of the BCS schools? Is it a Purdue, Wisconsin, or Florida? No. Does it have a spectacular football program? No. Is the UCONN athletic administration up to par with even some Valley schools? Debatable.

Casey for prez you might want to take some time and read a poster's whole train of thought, that way you may be able to step back and see the whole picture.

It's the kind of quick knee jerk conclusion of so many individuals to just hit and run without fully understanding the message because they disagree with something right away.

My point was the changing of the guard for college hoops, and you go off that you disagree with EVERYTHING I've opinioned on. Why? Because, in your opinion, UCONN is not a large university, so you just stopped reading and went off on my post.

I generally choose to read snippets here and there. Don't take it personally.I have just hated the last two Final Fours and think that on the whole it is bad for college basketball in our country when we have both VCU and Butler in the Final Four. It just turns off the mainstream fans. The last great FF was the year where Kansas beat UNC and Memphis. That was tremendous stuff and the casual fan likes it when there are more than a couple NBA players on the court. I was absolutely sickened hearing all the blah blah about Shaka Smart and VCU and how they are so cute. I had to turn off the VCU/Butler game after the first media timeout because of that stupid Cinderella storyline.

I like watching Missouri State play, but I'd rather watch paint dry than watch a CAA team play a Horizon League team. And for that to be a Final Four game? It just speaks to the poor quality of college hoops this year.

I think what turns a lot of people off about the hype all season from the talking heads about the Big East and a handful of BCS is that those teams are often just a showcase for one or two NBA bound athletes, who are "student athletes" in name only. Their college days are simply the opportunity to gain the spotlight and attention of professional scouts. I truly enjoy seeing TEAM play, hard work, coaching adjustments, and actual game plans on the court as opposed to watching showboat performances by attention-spoiled, smug players who are in the game just for themselves. Talent is one thing...and appreciated...but I love the total team, fan, and school effort of college basketball found in many programs who do not sit at the top of the college rankings year after year. But then, I do not particularly like watching pro basketball...the emotion is just not there watching a bunch of multi-millionaires playing for a much-exaggerated paycheck. Now, do I begrudge those talented players for going the pro route and going after the big bucks? Absolutely not...smart thing to do! I just don't find being a fan of programs that just funnel through the big names year after year very exciting. I would think that the media would recognize that there are a lot of fans like me who feel this way...in fact I think the media is showing more and more attention to more teams, not just those at the top, ...they seem to be searching more for standout players, conferences, programs, etc. than before.

I guess you are in the minority...

I guess you will need to quit watching the NCAA tournament then. This is becoming more common. The little guys aren't going away anytime soon with the "1 and done". If/when they change that, that is when the big boys will take total control again. That, or going to 96 teams. That would probably put a dent into the little guy's mojo
