How do YOU rank the MVC arenas?

Postby valleychamp » May 23rd, 2011, 5:20 pm

Good for some off-season discussion...

In your opinion, in what order do you rank the MVC men's basketball arenas? Figure in all factors such as size, niceness, sightlines, fan-friendliness, etc. Do not include attendances into your rankings, I am talking about the actual facility itself. Also, do not include your own school's building in your ranks. We all love our own arenas, and would be way too biased. :)

My ranks:

1. CU
2. MSU
(GAP)
3. WSU
4. SIU
5. Ill St
6. BU
7. In St
(GAP)
8. DU
9. EU

Disclaimer, I have not personally been to either Ill St's arena, nor Ind St's arena. And yes Aces fans, I know you are getting a new place next year.

1. Creighton
2. Mo. State
3. WSU
4. UNI
5. Ill. State
6. Bradley
7. Drake
8. SIU (although I haven't seen it since the renovation)
9. Ind. State

The only three arenas I've been to are at the bottom of the list. Maybe the grass is always greener showing up here. For what its worth, I probably would put Roberts Stadium just above SIU's pre-renovation facility.

SIU pre-renovation was a dump and would be near the bottom, but it is a completely different arena now. Very nice.

Since we're ignoring the most important factor in a home court advantage, attendance, let's also throw out rented facilities and those that were once D2 (or lower) facilities.

1. Illinois State (Redbird Arena is underrated)
2. UNI (I like the McLeod Center and it fits UNI; small, cheap and feisty)
3. MSU (just escapes the D2 exemption but with no locker rooms in the building, lucky to be 3rd)
4. Drake (hard to believe the Knapp center is almost 20)
5. Indiana State (the Hulman center sucks)

Unable to rank: WSU (my team) CU (rented) UE (double exclusion D2 moving to rented) BU (rented) SIU (D2)

Hulman Center is a great arena to watch a ball game. Sight lines are very good and ALL seats are theater style.
Rating any facility w/o having been there is ridiculous and supports bias and down right contempt for the school.
Some of you people need to grow up.

I have to agree with Syc Dog on this one. The Hulman Center is a great place to see a game. Nice seats and parking close. Actually it seems every arena in the MVC you can see well and feel part of the game. Fun to see the home crowd vibe at each place.

Hulman Center is nice, but it's so hot in there; probably 80+ when I was there in January.
