UNI +1?

Heard that UNI was plus one on the scholarship matrix and was talking to a friend inside their Sports Information office saying they were going to cut a scholarship player. I assume all incoming players are safe so begs the question who does Ben give the ax too? Will the cut Rank or Moran? What do the UNI fans expect will happen?

Yes, we are +1 as it stands right now. Nobody knows for sure right now, but the general feeling is that one player will be giving up his scholarship just for the 1 year. Likley a guy like Austin Pehl, or Matt Morrison.

Seems kind of unethical. I know Pitino has done similar things at Louisville but I am shocked, I tell you shocked to see that happen in Cedarloo.

Edit: I realize this stuff happens a lot of places but there have to be a lot of upset parents when a program does this to a kid who has earned a scholarship.

Scholarships are not a 4 year contract, they are given year by year. If the coach thinks a player doesn't deserve a scholarship for a year, that's the coach's decision. If a player wants to give up his scholarship for the good of the team, that's the player's decision. I don't see anything unethical about either.

Does UNI have any walk-ons that were given scholars last season?

Sometimes coaches give walk-ons scholarships as they are available and take them back when they're needed.

That's what happened at Louisville. It just so happened that one of those players was the top returning scorer whose dad is a surgeon.

I'm disappointed John. I thought you made it a point not to be above the fray. This is the sort of bush league stuff you would have found on ValleyTalk. I will give you the benefit of the doubt, but I think this unsolicited shot at MSU and their fans is pretty low.
