UNI Summer Trip to Brazil

Postby Khan4Cats » August 2nd, 2011, 7:41 am

UNI is currently in Brazil for a summer trip. It is nice with 6 incoming freshman (plus 3 more redshirts) to get 10 full practice days prior to the trip and be able to get some game action prior to fall practice starting. Johnny Moran is not cleared to play following shoulder surgery in the spring, Jake Koch is expected to play limited minutes following ankle surgery.

Team is going to play 5 games in the week+ in Brazil with three in a row to start and then two this weekend against different professional teams in Brazil. Level of competition is hard to judge, but it appears that we are playing one top tier game, two games against tier two teams and two against tier three. They are playing under international rules with a 24-second shot clock, lane, etc.

First game was last night after the team arrived early Monday morning. UNI won 62-49. There is a link:

Good luck reading Portuguese. Pictures in the article show some of the UNI players: #20 Jake Koch, #52 Anthony James, #1 Deon Mitchell, #23 Marc Sonnen, #33 Austin Pehl, #34 Tyler Lange, #14 Nate Buss, #31 Chris Oliviera, # (1)0 Seth Tuttle

Johnny Moran isn't playing but he is doing a blog and video diary of the trip. First entry is up at http://www.unipanthers.com/

He reports the score as 62-48, but whatever.

Luckily for you guys, I'm fluent in Portuguese :D jk, but seriously, the article says...

"The category of the 19 sub Jundiaí Club held a friendly hard against Northern Iowa University, the United States, but lost by 62 to 49 (partial per room: 12-13, 14-2, 13-21 and 23 to 13). The game was played at the ball, which will again receive the friendly clash on Wednesday, in another time: at 19h. The team North American university who is running for the NCAA Division 1 (the entity that holds the championships that college athletes gather just before the last step to reach the professional leagues in each sport).

The game was played at fast pace with two teams giving priority to defense and playing a lot on the counterattack. This accounts for the 1st time (the junction of 1 and 2 of bedrooms) have terminardo only 26 to 15.

In the 3rd quarter jundiaense the team took the difference from 14 to only 3 points, indicating very efficient in 3-pointers. In the last quarter Northern Iowa.

"I think we can make a good game. Against them we had to enter a fast pace, because that's how they play. We missed a lot in the finalization, some boys were scared to finish. It will be a good experience, a different school basketball, with strong rhythm, "said coach Jundiaí Club, Leonel Menezes.

"Experience is the exchange of athletes have experience of international football, because in college career can only do once (the team can only travel once every four years by the NCAA. For our team to play against a team well-trained help in our own development, "said coach Ben Jacobson of Northern Iowa."

I love translations.

Even translated it's nearly gibberish. Another panther fan commented to me that it sounds like something out of Yoda's journalism school when you read it.

Ok, so they played in a house and something happened in or between two bedrooms.

I'm glad they didn't go into any more detail!

Yeah I dont get whats up with that...but since google translate is infallible then it must be the truth
That or Brazilians call their quarters (sports quarters, mind you), bedrooms...wait...I think I actually see the connection now. Doesn't make a ton of sense that it translates in that fashion but I see it.

Translation has it's share of missteps. When Jimmy Carter was President, he was in Poland and said, "we love your people". In Polish it came out as "we lust after your bodies".

Do any UNI fans have a list of the teams they are playing, and are they playing the Brazilian National team?
