Official 2011-12 MVCfans.com Prediction - 10th Place

As we did last season, today we begin our basketball predictions for the 2011-12 Missouri Valley Conference mens basketball season. We will work in reverse order, predicting the 10th place finisher this week and concluding with the predicted MVC champion chosen by our users between the last two teams remaining in week 9. Following the team rankings, we will vote on the individual awards and compare them to the media selections that will be announced at MVC media days on October 25.

Last season, both fans and media selected Wichita State win the regular season, but it was the Missouri State Bears who claimed their first ever MVC regular season title. Our users correctly chose Kyle Weems of MSU as the league POY (media chose Kenny Lawson, Jr of Creighton). Cuonzo Martin of MSU was the MVC coach of the year (Gregg Marshall of WSU was the preseason choice). Doug McDermott of Creighton won both the freshman and newcomer of the year awards, while our voters chose Rayvonte Rice of Drake and Gregory Echnenique of CU for those honors.

It's certainly possible that three of the four teams playing on Thursday night will be from the state of Illinois. Again.

Hate to say it, but I think Missouri State falls off a cliff this year.

It's gotta be Isu coming in last this year.... Loss of 4 seniors... on an already tied for last place team.... and no coaching change. And although I like their recruiting class, I don't see them being able to come in and lift this team immediately. Look for the redbirds to be stronger next year, and much stronger the year following. Another key reason for my pick, is because I do not see Wilkins stepping up and becoming the player he can be... lack of player development is a reason why ISU should be looking for a new Coach to lead their squad. All of this, after all, is just IMO.

Well, yes, but do you really think MSU will have 2 or fewer conference wins? That's probably the kind of competition we'll see for 10th place this year.

By the way, I pretty firmly feel that SIU will go 2-16 and clinch 10th spot.

Point taken, but god forbid anything happen to Weems and they'll fall far. Read: Bradley last year.

i had to pick Bradley, I think Drake could easily take that spot too, depending on VanDeest's health (sounds like he is on a good road to recovery). I would like to see SIU in that spot, but only because that would definitely be the final straw for CLo and he will finally be out of the MVC.

I picked SIU. If their fans thought last season was a bad one. oh boy......

They are like MSU. One good player (even though MSU's is much better) and no one else around to help.

I can't wait until Lowery is gone so SIU can be good again.
