Great ESPN article on Creighton by Andy Katz

The season is almost here.
Now, just two seasons removed from McDermott’s exit from Ames, he is on the verge of taking Creighton back to where it belongs -- at the top of the Missouri Valley Conference and a real player in the NCAA tournament.

If you’re looking for a legit sleeper outside the likely preseason Top 25, then look no further than Omaha, Neb

Helps when you are able to bring your kid along. I get the feeling that had Doug stayed true to his commitment that Katz would be writing a flowery article about Jacobsen's coaching prowess right now instead.

But that being said, McDermott has done a good job up there. They are surely the class of the Valley this year.

Coach McDermott sure gets a ton of run for someone that's accomplished next to nothing in his career.

Just the idea that CU could be good this year (and yes they are my pick for the top spot) I guess is enough to warrant all the glorification.

Man I don't see the need to get worked up over this 2livewu. Any media loving on a valley team is fine with me.

I think this has more to do with the exposure Doug (and to a lesser extent Gregory) got on the Olympic qualifying teams. National media write about what they see. Doug played well with a lot of national types paying attention so that raised his and CU's profile. He also seems to have the personality to keep up with those connections, ala interacting with media/coaches/players on twitter occasionally. Greg also played well for the Venezuelan National team against several NBA centers. Eric Musselman was the coach.

I like Greg McD, but having Doug perform this well has made his job a lot easier at CU. There would be no ESPN stories about CU this season without Doug.

I hope the hype doesn't go to other players heads. We have a lot new guys and they need to be willing to work.

Good article.

And I do think Creighton is easily the team to beat this year. That's not to say they will have an easy road. It's the Valley after all, it will be anything BUT easy. It pains me to say this, but I like the team McDermott is putting together in Omaha. I also like McDermott a heck of alot better than Altman, so that does take away SOME of the sting LOL.

I still hope we bash them into the ground every time we play them and cause their fans to go into a drunken stooper. But until then.... :D

Agreed! But the teams "to beat" the last two years didn't frare well with the proverbial target on there back. Neither CU or WSU made the show.

Two years ago the team "to beat" ran away with the league. Not sure how that isn't faring well. Last year, WSU played very well in conference but just not quite as good as MSU. I wouldn't call WSU's season, except for not making the NCAA, disappointing. They had a heck of a season.

Nope. I completely disagree. At least from an outsider's point of view, their season was a complete disappointment. They should have run away with the league last year, and they not only failed to do that but they didn't win any championship and failed to make the tournament.

I agree that WSU's season last year was underachieving and disappointing. However, they did win a championship. Yes, it was only the NIT, but it helped cushion the blow.
