The MVC Report - Evansville Aces preview

My preview for Evansville has been added to the MVC Report. On paper this would appear to be the best Aces team in a while and expectations are high, but can they break into the upper tier of the Valley?

UE matches up well with teams like Indiana State, but they're going to get hammered by anyone with a good center. I think they're too high at fourth.

While I voted the Aces to finish 4th in the MVC fans poll, it will depend on how much help that they get from the freshman class. If the freshman turn out to be not quite as good as I think they are, then they might have a struggle to finish 4th, but if they are as good as I think they are, then I think that 4th is not ureasonable. Either way they will be a lot better in the 4-5 positions than they were last year. How much better, and how that will play into more wins, remains to be seen. Here's hoping that the freshmen don't play like freshmen, and the Aces are very competitive in their non-con schedule.

Evansville "still being Evansville" is exactly why many of us fans are optimistic about the upcoming season...we have many of our best scorers back and we have a freshman class with high potential....that mixed with the "Evansville still being Evansville" in our underdog work ethic and fight to defeat teams we "shouldn't be able to beat" is what I'm looking forward to. Teams who arrogantly discount the Purple Aces may soon understand.

It's a stigma that's not going to be erased until you do something about it. As of now, it's been quite a while since an upper-division finish (discounting ties).

When Evansville actually does something to make headway in the conference, more respect will be given. The potential is there this year, but as of now, it is only potential.

Yea, I can't wait to win the Valley tournament, and get to the big dance, and then get all the respect that
Indiana State is getting this year.

No disrespect meant, but Aces gotta prove it on the court before I start putting them ahead of teams that regularly finish top 4-5.
