Are there any coaches on the hot seat this year?

Postby hot nuts » August 5th, 2010, 11:51 am

Who's seat is hottest? Marty Simmons? Jimmy Les? Chris Lowery? My guess is they all stick around. E-ville still has rope left for Marty. BU fans seem to be adapting well to mediocrity. Lowery's contract is too big to buy out. Redbirfans will have to be patient with Jankovich this year...might be a bumpy road as that team gains experience.

Lowery or Simmons is in trouble unl;ess they can raise the quality of play

Lowery has lost good players to DII schools and last year was dismal for them.

Simmons has to find a atheletic front line in time for 2010-2011 to compete. Hopf had knee surgery last winter and maybe back by November PVT is a fifth year senior... and that about says it. He has picked up some great talent in the 6'8-6'6 range at the 3 4 postions but has lost Haarsma and Bouchie who was the front line for 2011-12.

I wonder if Bouchie is regretting his decision to go to E-ville...he was close to going to Indy St. Wonder if it would have mattered...seems to like the ganja too much.

Les probably has the least amount of protection with 1-7 teams appearing to be so close. With higher expectations, a second division finish, and they might pull the rug out (although they want him to succeed so very badly). Simmons has some rope left and should be safe, but a 10th place finish could change things. Lowery's not on the hot seat as his contract and SIU's financial situation has insulated him from the fires he's set all around him (picture Rome burning with Nero surviving).

Lowery's seat has been hot for two years now. Unfortunately, SIU does not have the money to fire him.

Look for declining wins and declining attendance.

Look for increasing angst.

SIU doesn't have the money to turn the seat heater on under lowery's ass. Otherwise he would already be gone.

Sounds like the Peoria paper thinks Les might be on the hot seat. From the article it says,

PEORIA —Almost every conversation I have about Bradley basketball these days includes some variation of that question regarding the head coach....

So, what to make of this?

The first thing I’d say is there’s no magic number of wins that assures Les’ future beyond his ninth season. Nor should there be. You can’t tell the coach, “20 wins save your job,” and then have No. 20 decided, for better or worse, by a 75-foot buzzer-beater.

If Lowery's chair isn't on freakin' fire for the entire season, I'll be surprised.

Anybody who follows Bradley basketball closely knows Les is on the hot seat. Heck, Jim Les knows it. Not only have the results not been good enough, he does not get along with BU's madam President--and she did not hire him--those things are often times more important than wins/losses.

As many on the BFans.com board want to try to point fingers at who is "anti-JL", "pro-JL", "BU haters", etc. it really comes down to one very simple thing---results. If you win a lot, people like you and the newspaper writes good articles..if you don't, well, the opposite is true.

I don't know why this is such a hard concept to grasp.
