SIU gets a recruiting boost

To paraphrase:

SIU thought they were a premier program like Gonzaga, Xavier, Memphis and Butler

It only seems that way. The program instead has gone backward.

The 2008 recruiting class was a disaster. Lowery has 4 years on his contract, and the SIU AD says Lowery can lose all their games this season and he will be back next year regardless and will fulfill his contract. Lowery also said the SIU were fair weather fans but thought someday they would cheer for them.

"When our fans start cheering for us again on defensive stops like other programs cheer for scores, I'll know it means we have the culture back."

I came in here hoping to see that SIU finally grew a pair and canned Lowery.

I go away disappointed.

Does not Equal

"Not much time has passed since Southern Illinois ranked right up there with Gonzaga, Xavier, Memphis and Butler as one of the nation's top non-Big Six programs."

We have been a turd recently but we weren't then...

The difference between those teams and SIU is that they kept it going. Even after coaching carousel spins, they've continued to make everyone else in the mid to bottom tier conferences jealous. SIUs continuity ran out when they gave Lowery the job. Unfortunate because I thought they had a damn good shot at keeping it going.

That is very, very sad indeed. I actually MISS the Saluki-dawgs. Bless their little black hearts. Please hurry and get your collective stuff together and become competitive again. I miss the Rivalry.

I never thought I'd say this: I miss 'DoggyStyle' and the fellas...

Luv,
gtmo ;)

Maybe in three or four years, provided they hire a coach, who can coach and recruit. Just maybe.

I would not bet on it, given the AD's attitude.

Where is DawgieStyle?
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

I know it is customary now for fans to insult and mock SIU basketball. That's cool, we've had three years of not very good teams. But get ready for a competitive team this year, one that you've loved to hate---lot's of in your face defense (and, yes, walking up to the line of hand checking each time down on defense) and hustle.

We may not have the dawgs to finish high this season, but opponent's will physically know they have been in a game. Laugh on 8-)

I will be catching the Salukis at Western Kentucky then at Carbondale for the Bulldog game.
Will be intersting to see the new place.
I think its dangerous to think this team or fans are in a lull.
