KCMO MVC UMKC

Kansas City is a great basketball town, perhaps the best college hoops town in the country. Starting city for the NCAA and NAIA BB champiopnships. Long time host for national and conference championships: NCAA, NAIA (also the home office for the NAIA), Big 6, Big 8, Big 12, MIAA. Great facilities: SPRINT, Municipal, Kemper. Great fans. Great metro wide high school basketball for college recruitment--currently under recruited.

What KC lacks is a competitive, home town D1 university basketball program in a competitive, regional, nationally ranked D1 conference. UMKC in the MVC solves that problem.

With Creighton University leaving the MVC, creating a vacancy in the conference. The MVC would like to have a 10 member school basketball conference. Without question the best city for a new MVC member is KC. KC is the Queen City of the Missouri River, the biggest city and posible fan base in and on the River, the best possible location for a new MVC member school in the and trhe MVC region

Why UMKC and the MVC. Just like the real estate saying: “its location, location, location”. UMKC/KC are centrally located in the MVC region: five schools west and five schools east of the Mississippi, 200 +/- miles from Wichita , MSU and Drake, 250 miles from NIU and MVC headquarters and Saint Louis. This geographic closeness creates conference rivalry, especially between UMKC, Missouri State, Wichita State, Drake, and Northern Iowa. Rivalry results in fan interest and gate revenue, plus regional rivalry will draw visitor fans to KC from Springfield, Wichita, and Iowa--for Iowan’s, going to KC is almost like going to heaven!

UMKC is a public university with 14,000 plus students. UMKC has been a D1 school since the mid 1980s. UMKC is a former member of several lower ranking confewrences. As the Summit Conference folds
after this year, to maintain a conference affiliation UMKC will join the re-structuring WAC. Next years WAC will stretch from Chicago to south Texas to Southern California to Seattle.

UMKC in the MVC is a great fit for UMKC, the MVC , member schools in the MVC, and Kansas City. Member ship in the MVC will increase UMKC's recruting capability 10 fold! With better recruiting UMKC can raise its RPI to the same level as pther MVC schools.

I have seen, read, heard mention of other possibel schools and cities as possible MVC membership. The most often mentioned are Oral Roberts U in Tulsa and SD State and ND State. all great schoools and viable MVC candidates. But all things considered they do not present the same potential for the MVC as does UMKC and KC.

KC-MVC-UMKC a great fit!!!

7-24 record and 285 RPI team probably won't be chosen to replace CU.

I think UMKC can recruit and more than halve their RPI in a quality conference like the MVC. They have a new coach--currently an assistant at Louisville.

Tulsa already has another D! school--Tulsa U. Not a big ORU fan base or TV potentrial. SD and ND Stae have done good the last couple of years--but, not noted basketball schools or in hot basketball country. Is not the biggest sport at NDSU ice hockey?

Need to realize that MVC has to do something drastic or its in the sewer as a BB conference. Has been a two team conference for the last few years---yes there are occasional good seasons/success from other Valley teams. But, mormally WSU and CU.

If something good does not happen I can see WSU leaving the MVC for greener pastures. Even the loss of the WSU coach will be devestating to the MVC.

ST Louis, Dayton, Belmont, ??????. Quit day dreaming!!

UMKC has no basketball history, they have no chance to be admitted to the MVC. Now if they had a better history of winning in men's BB then yes, but man, they're deplorable.

Can you promise that you and the other 2 UMKC fans in the KC area would watch every televised MVC game? that would provide 3 additional viewers and might affect the MVC's TV contract.

It was a well written plea, but not entirely true, and being a public school is a strike against it.

The Summit is folding? The Summit went out and added Denver.....and UMKC's response was to move to the much more unstable, and lower quality, WAC. (for those not keeping track, the WAC is now New Mexico St, Great West castoffs, and a couple new DI programs)

That move says everything there is to be said about where UMKC thinks their future is. They're in the right city, but that's all they have right now.

Wichita State is the richest athletic program in the conference as a public school. But I get your points.

Win games before you try to get into the conference. It's not a matter of needing to replace CU ... whoever replaces them, there would likely be a spot for a GOOD UMKC in the future. Key word is good. We don't need to add bottom feeders in the hope that the MVC will make them good. Get 20+ wins for a few years in a row and then the MVC will probably want you.

Re: the bolded part, I saw a list recently of teams moving conferences and thought there had to be a mistake. New Mexico St is truthfully the perfect fit for the MVC with what's going on right now in the WAC.

What does Wichita State have to do with UMKC? And Wichita State may be the best basketball team as of late (excluding Creighton), but overall I wouldn't say that it's necessarily the best.
