Wichita State scheduling updates

Postby MVCfans » August 12th, 2013, 6:28 pm

A couple of exciting notes today about Wichita State's schedule. Good exposure - hopefully the game in Dallas works out.

I wonder how attendance will be with the midnight tip off game. WSU has a lot of really old fans and I doubt that they will come. Also WSU fan from Hutch will probably pass on the game too. I'm sure they'll still do quite well but it might not be a super imposing crowd that late.

I think it depends. There's no doubt that WSU will sell the game out on paper. How attendance looks on TV might be a different matter. I'm sure there's going to be a lot of season ticket holders and corporate seats that won't be attending the game. Unfortunately, a lot of older season ticket holders probably won't know how to work things like Stubhub to sell their tickets.

If the tickets are opened up to casual fans, though, zero doubt those get snapped up immediately being the first real home game after the Final Four.

They are decent. Pretty passionate. But that isn't my point.

I felt like maybe a decade ago the midnight game idea was cool. It's not a terrible idea now but all of the senior citizen fans will be in bed as will any youngsters. The novelty has kind of worn off.

If the game sells out and great ESPN personalities like Sean Farnham and Justin Kutcher speak of a terrific atmosphere then I will eat crow. I expect to see a lot of funky looking coeds dressed all weird and stuff, but the youngsters, old fans, and even potential recruits aren't going to stay up until around 2 in the morning to watch it.

It's one game though so it doesn't really make a difference. The Dallas games would be great from an exposure mindset.

Attendance was great for the Shockers before the F4 finish last year. I have trouble believing that there will be many empty seats at ANY of their games this coming year. Even one with a midnight start.

I will be going and I'm neither old or young. My wife and two kids will not be going but it will not be difficult to sub in for them, I guarantee you that. All is not lost but thanks for your concern.

I would suspect that this year tickets are going to be hard to come by. If some of those not willing to attend will offer their tickets on the marketplace, their seats will be filled by energized fans who don't get to come to that many games. That could spell trouble for the visitors.

Of course we have seen many instances over the years that opposing teams really feed off of the energy in Koch Arena. Several UNI games come to mind.

There's zero chance that there won't be a sell out on paper. I'd be pretty shocked if there are more than 1000 empty seats. I'm sure most of the season ticket holders that won't be going to the game will easily find others to take their tickets.

My grandparents are season ticket holders and don't make every game. But they always hand off their tickets when they can't make a game. They'll have a dozen people trying to get their tickets, as they have for the last several years.

There is going to be a huge demand for all tickets for WSU this year -- and we were already selling every game out. The only seats that might be empty are from older season ticket holders that don't know how to sell their tickets online and don't have any human connections in the city.
