WSU Basketball Player Collapses On Court

Postby Aargh » September 3rd, 2013, 8:34 pm

D.J. Bowles, a Fr bsketbll player at WSU, collapsed on court and was taken by ambulance to a hospital. He has been reported in serious condition. It's also been reported he is alert and stable.

Bowles was expected (by fans) to be the primary backup at PG by the second half of the season. He was listed as a top 150 recruit by at least one service. He was looking really good in summer games, but that and $4 will get you a small coffee at Starbuck's.

There is so little info available right now, that I'll skip linking to media reports that typically have less info than my first paragraph in this post.

Last report for the day is "Serious, but Stable" condition. I don't expect anything more definitive than that for 48 - 72 hours. Still no diagnosis - more tests tomorrow. Depending on the results of those testsm his parents will come to Wichita. I believe the news report said they were from Nashville.

I've faced a life-changing illness and realized the effects of the loss of "quality of life" issues. For an 18-year-old who's entire life has been built around basketball, losing that would be a major life issue.

I REALLY hope he's cleared to play basketball again. Not for my benefit. Not for WSU's benefit. I just don't want to see something that important to a young man taken away from him with no warning.

Wow. Very scary situation. I hope he can be released soon and get back on the court.

I thought I saw something about this on twitter last night. Thoughts and prayers to the kid, his family, and the team. I can't stand WSU but I certainly wish nothing but the best for their student-athletes in terms of their well being.

Early (and unconfirmed, but reliability is reasonable) reports indicate his heart stopped beating and he stopped breathing. Trainer gave CPR immediately. Got everything going again with an AEDS (Automated External Defibrilating System).

By the time the ambulance got there, Bowles was alert and talking. Close call! Trainer and defib saved his life.

It's way too early to have any info about his BB future, but this would seem more like Josh Jones - done with basketball, than like Carl Hall - able to play again after a couple of years of recovery and getting the right combination of meds working.

That trainer deserves a raise, then often overlooked portion of any athletic department. Great news that he is stable and hopefully he and his family can get some answers as to why this happened.

Glad that the trainer was able to control the situation. Hopefully DJ is able to get himself right again. Basketball is not important now (though it may serve as a catalyst for his recovery).

The LU community wishes him all the best for a speedy recovery.

Unbelievable.

Just glad he's a live and was in the right hands.
