Teddy Hawkins officially to ISU, with an odd exception

Hawkins originally signed a National Letter of Intent (NLI) to play at Wichita State in 2011, but he was granted partial relief from the Missouri Valley Conference's intra-conference transfer rule after Hawkins did not enroll at WSU. Hawkins will be permitted to compete for the Redbirds in the 2014-15 season; however, he is required to miss both of ISU's regular-season games against Wichita State.

I cannot imagine this has ever happened before... I'll take over him sitting the 14/15 season as well as 12/13...

Just curious, how to other teams feel about this? Does it seem unfair to them, to allow a player to play against them, but not be allowed to play vs. WSU?

As I said, this is fine with me, as opposed to sitting 2 seasons, but how do other teams feel?

Absolutely, laughably ridiculous. I literally can't believe this is an actual thing that is happening. A complete joke.

Why, because Dougie didn't get to sit out against the Panthers?

It's silly, but again, it was either that or sit out til 2015-2016. I think it's a no-brainer decision and I'm sure most Redbird fans and coaches accept it.

I personally don't care because those are 2 WSU wins with or without him. I can see why other Valley fans are pissed though. They need as much help as they can get.

This is silly. Either he broke the rules or he didn't. If he could not make good on his promise to WSU because of something WSU did, then WSU should have released him. If it was Teddy's selfishness, then he should pay the consequences for his decisions.

It's a joke because the Valley is just making stuff up as they go. They didn't make Dougie or Anthony Beane sit out, what's different in this case? Just because Teddy doesn't have his daddy on coaching staff? Either you have rules and standards or you do not. At this point the rules are getting to be complete b.s.

What happens if Illinois State wins the 8-9 game in St. Louis in March? Does he have to sit out the Friday game then?

I read the article in the link again and it said nothing about him not being eligible to play against Missouri State.

But seriously though, are we already conceding the 2015 conference title to Wichita State? I'm not. There are some good young teams in this conference and I think we are selling them short by believing that WSU is on a different level than everybody else. 2014 I get. I actually like building them up because A. they are good and B. if something happens and they finish less than 17-1/16-2 then it's gonna get pretty funny around here. But we shouldn't concede 2015.

Doug did not break any rules. He asked for and was granted a release. Not sure about Anthony.

Teddy, though, either he deserved a release and WSU did not grant it, or he did not deserve a release and should have to sit out. If he deserved a release, then shame on WSU. My guess though is he saw a better opportunity elsewhere and is breaking his promise. The other 8 schools should not be punished for his selfishness.

I'm personally glad that he is eligible at this point next year so it doesn't bother me. I do understand why other teams would be a little miffed that there doesn't appear to be a precedent for this (I didn't research) and it would be a slight advantage to WSU.
