TV Question

Postby agrinut » December 24th, 2013, 6:34 pm

Would you be a fan of the valley removing the mandate requiring each school have one televised game? This would allow the marquee matchups to be shown more frequently, and the premier programs getting more coverage, while increasing the value. While some teams my go a few years without coverage on the tier 1 & 2 tv contracts.

I'd be opposed. While it's obvious that some of the Valley Games of the Week don't have a large appeal, those teams need the TV exposure.

TV exposure helps recruiting. Anything that can help some of the bottom-half teams improve their recruiting has to happen. Even if we have to endure some exposure of the Valley that is less than flattering.

Of course I would be for it. The league needs to quit approaching it as a welfare program but use it to showcase the league and put it in the best light.

We do, tier one is ESPN, Tier 2 is Fox Sports Midwest, and tier 3 is local coverage so Cox 22 in Wichita, KY3 in Springfield, Metro in KC, Comcast in Chicago, Mediacom in Des Moines. I may be missing a few.

The tier one contract could be worth more money if we would focus it on schools that draw a decent viewing. In the past MSU, WSU, and CU have all had the best ratings. It always surprised me that BU hasn't received better numbers.
