Doug McDermott - frosh all MVC?

Postby Ali » December 2nd, 2010, 11:19 am

I've made it clear that I like Greg McDermott in spite of the circumstances of him again coaching in the MVC but the fact that he took Doug away from UNI is what is killing me. It sounds like Doug is going to be a stud and I can't help but wonder how good he was the past couple of years but got overlooked because he was on the same high school team as Harrison Barnes who hasn't done 1/2 of what little McD has done so far in college. There is a limited sample size on games played and I acknowledge the ceiling for Barnes is very high, but it's becoming clear that Doug is very, very good and maybe better than any of us realized.

I don't have any idea who was the last frosh to be all-MVC? Seems like Doug has that kind of potential and we might as well give him FOY already considering he's won every weekly award so far and will probably win this weeks too.

I think Stinnett may have been second team all conference as a frosh.

I was thinking 1st team, which I thought was what the OP was looking for. If not, I think Stinnett is right.

I did mean first team and I can't think of any in recent memory. Is there a place online where this can be found or anyone have a media guide?

he has had an amazing start, but we have lots of basketball left. I'm worried about him wearing down as a frosh. Especially since we are leaning on him pretty heavily right now. Hope I'm wrong.

Also, conference teams are going to have tape on him and start gameplanning for him. So I wouldnt' be surprised to see some of his numbers go down. All Frosh team looks pretty likely and good shot at FOY if he keeps getting the minutes.

KLaw....is still a POY lock though.

Wearing the kid down has to be a concern. It'll be interesting to see what happens to his minutes when the big guy becomes eligible.

If he's able to consistently score 10-12 points a game when the conference season starts he could be a second team type guy. I'd be stunned at this point if he doesn't win freshman of the year though.

I don't think that race is completely over yet, although McDermott is the clear favorite right now. Rayvonte Rice has really started to come on for DU, and leads the team in scoring, rebounding and assists. He might have dropped to 2nd on the team in rebounds after last night's game.

Any other freshmen off to good starts for MVC teams? I've gotta admit, I really haven't been paying that much attention to the box scores this season.
