The MVC/Mountain West Challenge is coming to a end

Postby VU2014 » June 28th, 2018, 11:06 am

Some bad news. The MVC/MWC are ending the Challenge after this upcoming season. Mid-Major Conferences NEED to work together to get their Top Teams great games to build a resume for March. It sounds like it was the MWC that is severing the relationship.

I am not sure who needs who. The same reason you are throwing shade on the conferences supposedly below us is exactly the same reason I am sure the MWC doesn't want to continue this. Bids are fragile, and why would the MWC, A10 or AAC want to risk losing bids to a conference that is perceived to be lower? Personally, I think we would mop up a lot of A10 programs, but the perception is they are better, and such, get multiple bids. I can't see them wanting a challenge. There is nothing to gain for them.

The fact MWC schools are coming in and poaching our coaches (Medved and Ragland) for lateral moves certainly doesn't help the perceptions.

Until the rules and tournament is changed, we aren't going to out game the game, and you certainly can't expect the other hungry mouths who are fighting for the same crumbs we are to become our allies. It's up to the schools in this conferences to do what it takes to increase our bid chances, and no one else. Keeping our coaches from being raided for lateral moves would be a good first step.

The HL and SL are clearly "below" the MVC. There is no supposedly. I'm not trying to put them down, but it's just a reality. The MVC and MWC are a closer level of competition then the SL and HL are to the MVC. Playing a challenge with them would actually be worse for the league then helpful. The MVC/MWC actually had the potential to produced helpful resume building matchups for both league. EX: Nevada vs Loyola, etc

Elgin said the MVC is looking for other options for conference series.

A10 please. St. Bonnie, Rhode Island, VCU.... that'd be fun

If it isn't going to be the MWC, I would prefer the A10. I don't know how they would feel about so many of their teams being left without a matchup. We run in to the same numbers with CUSA, but they would be more likely to work with the MVC because they seem to also have a hard time scheduling as well.

I picked the aac even though theyd never do it. Unless the a-10 decides to challenge I say don't do a challenge.

Why not a “MVC Challenge” where you take teams from many conferences? That way you aren’t stuck with trying to match up teams that don’t match (ie the bottom of the HL with the bottom of the Valley).

Let me get this straight...you want the mvc to play the best from each conference. Why would the best from any conference want to face the 6-10 teams? It wouldn't bolster their resume just ours.

You could do the best 4 from each conference play each other....but that's basically a better version of bracket buster

If we did that, it would just kind of be like regular scheduling.
