Elgin should resign

Postby mvfcfan » January 18th, 2019, 3:29 pm

It's just time. We need someone with some actual vision for the MVC. We have to be the only league in the country that would not add a school that does nothing but win and has sent multiple players to the NBA over travel partners for sports that no one even cares about (wbb, volleyball). And not to mention they were publicly advocating to get in. 11 has been proven to work and it just takes someone with a tiny bit of vision to make it work. Yeah Murray isn't a large market, but they win and they will bring a lot of fans to St Louis. If they aren't added this year then there needs to be a push to get rid of him.

Elgin just does what the schools want. He isn't a dictator. He should be able to get this approved though.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that the decision makers in any expansion are the schools themselves. Elgin can't unilaterally decide by himself to add a school. It's unclear if he even did make a recommendation that the school presidents would go for it.

It is more likely the presidents than Elgin.

But if Murray wins in the ncaa's this year and the mvc rep loses, the league should admit Murray State and issue a public apology to the fans for not knowing what the fans knew two years ago: the whole of both Valparaiso and Murray State would be an excellent tandem to push the conference.

lol

The school presidents aren't going to make a long-term decision based on the outcome of a couple of tournament games, let alone apologize for passing on Murray.

There's a lot more that goes into the decision than men's basketball.

I know this much, the ADs and head coaches with their butts on the hot seat aren’t gonna be too keen on bringing us in I bet. I’ll guarantee that’s a consideration for some.

I'm willing to bet the Iowa schools especially weren't too keen on making a trip to Murray every year. Same reason other schools don't want the Dakotas.

Lol, no.

This board's continuous overvaluing of Murray State is bordering on comical at this point. Murray doesn't being anywhere near enough value to overcome the perfectly legitimate reasons not to bring them in.

CBS/Turner and the P6 have assured that we're a one bid league for the foreseeable future and we've had ZERO issues with getting multiple units every year. Why on Earth would we split the pie further AND make all other sports a pain in the ass scheduling wise with very, very little upside.

• UNI could go to the Mountain West with Gonzaga & WSU
• UNI has a H&H lined up with Mizzou
• Austin Reaves hated his OU visit and will sign with UNI
• MVCFans is voting 9-seed UNI 6th out of “fear and jealousy”

That’s continuous overvaluing bordering on comical.

Describing Murray’s admission as “very, very little upside” continues this pattern:
• Attributing Loyola’s Final 4 run to luck, randomly posting 2010 UNI was better, and unbelievably claiming Loyola still might not be a good add
• Attributing South Dakota State’s success to Otzelberger paying recruits after they beat UNI by 32
• Complaing about attendance being “so screwed” from replacing Creighton & Wichita with Loyola & Valpo immediately after Loyola & Valpo assumed 1st (as if UNI isn’t responsible for its own attendance)

You aren’t fooling anyone hiding behind VB & WBB. We know the motivation.

Murray is on a great run and has a very solid basketball tradition, I'm not denying that when it comes to Men's Basketball. They're be a great addition if the decision was made on Men's Basketball in a vacuum. If that were the case, they would have gotten the call instead of Valpo.

The problem is that this decision is being made by a room full of University presidents, half of whom are from non-football playing private schools who have seen exactly what's happened to similar institutions when they lose control to football playing public universities, excluding the Big East. That's without even discussing the financial side of things.

Murray's best chance is to wander up to Nashville and convince Belmont that it's the right move for them as well. That balances out the political side. That's the side that Murray has to win.

If I were King for a day, I'd add Murray and South Dakota State and add the strongest scheduling mandate ever seen. However, I'm not and in the real world 11 isn't happening and until there's a reasonable non-football playing preferably private University that's a viable 12th there isn't going to be any expansion beyond 10.
