Who's on the hot seat and who is not?

Postby mvfcfan » January 27th, 2019, 11:10 am

With the league looking very bad this year, there will surely be some coaching changes coming soon.

Bradley- Wardle's seat is getting pretty warm. Their team is terrible this year and it's his 4th year.
Drake- their coach is very safe.
Evansville- first year, he's safe
ILST- Muller is safe for now.
INST- Lansing's seat is starting to get pretty warm. Supposedly he's got 2 years left after this year and ISU can't afford to buy him out.
Loyola- very safe
MSU- first year, safe
UNI- safe
SIU- unless they make the NCAA tournament or make it to Sunday at the bare minimum, I'd think Hinson's seat is very hot.
Valpo- they've shown improvement this year, safe

SIU firing Barry would be as big of a mistake as when Missouri State did.

From the outside, I like Barry as much as anyone, but there comes a time when a change is necessary. He simply should be in a better position this year than he is. A lot of people said we made the wrong decision in firing Simmons, including Barry. As proven, the only thing wrong in firing Simmons is it didn't happen sooner. If he can't win with this group, I don't see how he turns things around.

Lansing has the least to work with of anyone in the league, and it isn't even close. Despite this, and with usually nothing more than average talent, he seems to always have them at least mid-pack in the standings. I think it would be fair to find him some more resources before throwing him out the door.

Something is terribly wrong in Peoria. I am not in a position to opine too heavily, but a 4th year coach to be this bad with good talent sends a very distressed signal. Without actually knowing the guy, he does come across as being a prick...maybe that persona is not motivating the team he has. Don't really know, but hope the best for them.

At this point in 2006, Bradley was 11-9 (3-5) with Jim Les walking out of postgame interviews.

With Norton and Williamson out, I think this league’s down to 1 team with the talent and experience to pull an upset in March. Those teams historically are good in FG% against, 3PT shooting, and balanced scoring. There’s one team who leads the league in all three.

It wasn't then, it wouldn't be now.

Correct.
Barry will always have you competitive but lacking in the end.

Teams that hover around the top most every year will eventually break through. I think Barry, Muller and Lansing all will have their day. It's a lot harder having to fight against half the fan base as well as the other team.

Wardle could go winless the rest of the season and he's probably still safe for the foreseeable future. Bradley has bought out its last two coaches in a 10 year time span. I doubt the school has the appetite or checkbook to buy out a guy who just received a 5 year extension this Spring. Dave Reynolds wrote an article on this topic recently:
