Ranking the Best Jobs

Postby BCPanther » February 1st, 2019, 12:04 pm

Jeff Goodman, now with Stadium, has been doing a ranking of the best jobs in every league. His series got to the Valley today. Its a survey of coaches in the league in 8 categories.

I think it ranked out about where I thought it would.

1-Illinois State
2-Bradley
3-UNI
4-Loyola
5-Missouri State
6-Southern Illinois
7-Valparaiso
8-Indiana State
9-Drake
10-Evansville

Really interesting quotes from anonymous head coaches and assistants.

Moronic.....makes no sense and obviously knows nothing about the MVC. Hard to beleive the assistant coaches would say those things.

Actually UNI, Drake, Indiana State, and Loyola the only current teams that have been have been to the NCAA tourney in the last 10 years.

Illinois State was 20 years since the last appearance. Drake has a final 4 and two elite 8's . Bradley had elite 8 and championship games in the 50' and sweet 16 in 2006. Indiana State played in a Championship game. What does he use for comparisons?

Its a ranking system. Its math based on survey results. I think its pretty accurate when you step back and take a look at it.

Don’t really see a ranking or totem pole when viewing the jobs in this league. Each job is unique and distinct from one another. It’s not Big Ten FB where you have a Michigan, Ohio St, Penn St, & Michigan St with intrinsic separation.

Interested to read the comments. That’s where the quirks of each job come in.

Not a bad list. If we were to do a poll here, you'd probably get similar results.

Glancing through, there's definitely a recruiting base bias toward schools around Chicago despite the long and storied tradition of really good Chicago kids not wanting much to do with local schools.

When he rates Indiana State,Northern Iowa, and SIU as having better recruiting bases than MSU he's just literally stupid. We are roughly 3 hours from KC/STL/Tulsa/Little Rock,as well being the third largest city and are the second largest University in our State . Why does he think our enrollment keeps growing and is the largest in the Valley; uuh maybe because the base for drawing from is pretty big w/o as much competition as there is in Illinois and Indiana. That among other things in his analysis are just off.

Was thinking the same but we all are going to be biased towards our own schools.

Potential alone makes MSU a top 2 job probably but we haven't ever come close to scratching the surface of that potential.

HE didn't rank them. It was a survey of league coaches.

Indiana and particular Indianapolis is a better place to recruit than all of those listed for ISU. Plus I believe they are only like 3 hours from STL themselves and like 4 from Chicago.

My point if Illinois State and Bradley are at the top in these values, why don't these values equate to NCAA success and notoriety, such as UNI success?
