Congrats to Drake

Thought Drake was the most consistent and well coached team in the Valley this year. McGlynn should be POY imo; his stats reflect it, but even more, his importance to what Drake does is impressive beyond any other player in the league. Again, congrats to Drake fans and program.

Seconded. They've been a tremendous story to follow this year. They could be dangerous if they win in St Louis. It adds some extra sting that 3 of the players on the Drake roster are from right in Valpo's backyard and they really hurt us when they played us. I should add that the recruiting job DeVries did is one of the best ever. From not even a starting five to a whirlwind recruiting tour that creates a roster that wins a share of the title. Incredible. Here are our beat writer's thoughts on the matter and I couldn't agree more:

He's not just MVC COY material he's national COY material.

I agree. Great game today and Just a great season. Ford did a great job for us but DeVries deserves COY.

Incredible year by the Bulldogs, especially considering Norton's injury. DeVries has done a great job both of putting together a roster and coaching through adversity. Glad to see Drake have some success. Now if we can just get the Register to realize there is a conference-winning college program in town... (I live up the road in Ames)

Yea, it definitely stings to have kids in your backyard beat you and not be a part of your program. Congratulations to Drake for not only finding the talent, but utilizing it. Awesome job!

And, there's a 4th from Valpo's backyard who is sitting out this season as a transfer....and a 5th who might join the team this spring.

This whole season for Drake has been surreal. 11 months ago, there were 3 players on the roster, not counting walk-ons. One of those 3 didn't score a single point last season.

DeVries somehow puts together a roster, and then sees his best player go down (for the season) in the first half of the first conference game of the season.

Bulldogs played only 8 players the last 10 games of the season. Unfortunately, one of them (DJ Wilkins) went down with an injury with about 8 minutes to go in the game today. Fortunately, looks like he could be back in time for conference tourney.

How many first round picks would we have to attach to trade Lottich for him?

Drake did a lot of impressive things this year. They were the best MVC team in the Non-con IMO.... DeVries should be unanimous COY, not just for sharing the best conference record, but for assembling the players from almost nothing, getting returnees like McGlynn and Noah Thomas to buy in totally, and overcoming the injury to Norton. That's damn anazing.

But Marques Townes is the MVC POY. When Lucas Williamson went down and Clayton Custer had rough games, Townes kept Loyola from dropping ing out of the race. In Loyola's two wins over Drake, Townes had 28 in the first game (a career high) and 32 in the second game (a new career high).

Yes. Townes averages 30 points against Drake.
