Bluejays at Redbirds

Postby Red » December 27th, 2010, 11:27 am

I've been looking forward to conference basketball starting and I just love this time of year. We host Creighton on Wednesday night and have had the Bluejays number over the past couple of years. Hopefully the trend continues.

No "O Hawk"= CU win. 64-61 jays.

No score prediction but I will go out on a limb and say CU pulls this one out on the road. We are not a very good road team but I think we get the job done. It would be a great way to start off conf play.

The way things usually work out in Normal is that the Birds go off behind the arc and never look back. And with the Jays' horrid perimeter D I can see that happening again..

But no "O" and with the IllS's non-con featuring teams from the same conference as Sisters of the Poor I see Creighton prevailing in the end..

Surprise...surprise.

Jay's fans picking their team to win and redbird fans picking their team to win.

I actually do think this is going to be a tight game. I think it ends up being decided in OT. I'll give you one guess who I think is going to win.

This is another interesting conference opener.

With the way the Redbirds have looked to this point in time, a road game there should be "winnable" for a team that expects to contend for league leadership.

This looks like a "no-win" situation for CU. A loss to IlSU leaves CU looking for WSU, UNI, and MSU to lose there too. It's not likely that all 3 will. A W for CU leaves CU waiting to see if WSU, MSU , or UNI stumbles there.

I don't think CU can get out of Normal with a W right now. Redbird fans get to enjoy a few days of being tied for the league lead.

We put together a bunch of ways to follow this game if you are at all interested. The game will be available on ESPN Full Court and ESPN3.com for those outside of Omaha.

And then we talked to Jim Benson at the Pantagraph about the Redbirds. Does he do a pretty good assessment of what to expect from a Redbird fan standpoint?

I know some ISU fans who think we'll lose and there are some CU fans who think they will too. Should be a close game no matter who wins. Probably more important for ISU because it is a home game so I'm going with red over blue.

I am excited to see the front courts match up. Carmichael, Ekey, and Wilkins sound like a nice trio just starting to develop. And CU has been relying heavily on its frontcourt this year with Lawson, Baby McD, Wragge, and now Gregory.

Carmichael vs Lawson/Gregory could be fun
I'll also be interested to see how our 4 men defend Wilkins/Lewis as they sound like they might be a bit more athletic than our guys.
If Ekey plays the 3 he will likely be guarded by Ashford or Korver. He'll have about 3 inches on both of them. I don't know if they are quick enough to exploit him on the defensive end or not.

Is Hill the PG? AY has been a rock for us this year...if Hill can slow him down or wear him down, it will be a long night for CU. I'm really high on AY though, love the way he is playing.

Who will be the fifth starter? Clark? Cousin? Rubin?
