Gregg Marshall

Wow, really scathing report on Gregg Marshall in Stadium article about player abuse at WSU. Not really surprising following the last two years when there have been ridiculous numbers of transfers out of the program including 7 this past summer. I think we all had seen signs over the years of a pretty intense and at times explosive personality, but this article makes it clear it went beyond the norm for intense competitive coaches.

Couple things stood out to me :1] That despite the obvious inner turmoil on the team for a number of years, the players used it to bond together and remain successful. That's to their credit. 2] That there had to be an effort to cover up administratively , for this to have continued unchecked for this many years. On the shocker board there's reference to an incident in which a student athlete from another sport parked in Marshall's designated spot and that Marshall chased down the student and physically engaged him. According to the info on Shocker net [unverified] a cash settlement was arranged to make that go away.

I can't see Marshall surviving this for a number of reasons. One the amount of players interviewed and citing incidents is significant. It involves both physical and emotional abuse of both players and a former assistant. It involves allegations of ethnic and racial taunts, which of course in today's world is a huge flash point. And finally, remember WBB coach Jody Adams was dismissed a number of years back for many of the same type allegations , setting precedence for what action WSU deems appropriate in such cases. It would look bad if Marshall survived after firing a successful WBB coach for similar incidents.

Gregg Marshall and Chris Jans have now both been outed as "not very good dudes". I wonder how this is playing out in Wichita.

What a dick.

“He’s smart, a great coach,” added another. “Just a bad person.”

You should see the tone deaf Shockers board. 90% backing GGG

Reminds me of the Cubs board backing Addison Russell after numerous reports of abusing his wife.

Anybody that has ever been within earshot of Gregggggggggg when he thinks nobody else can hear him is not anywhere near surprised by this.

You don't have to be asshole to every SID and AD staff member on the planet or the poor college kid working in a sports bar that forgets the lemons for your water or media member until they pull out something to record you or on and on and on.

I'm just worried that he's not going to be able find a good steak or have the private jet....

Nah, Marshall will survive just fine. I don't recall all the circumstances of Adams, but don't forget, you are talking about the same school that looked the other way on Gene Stephenson when he ordered a 90+ mph fastball to the temple of an opposing player.

Good lord I wish I didn’t look. The mental gymnastics some folks are going through to defend this as just “hearsay” despite only 3 out of 36 folks interviewed defending the man is MINDBLOWING. He can be a great basketball coach and a still an awful person at the same time. The garage incident is ridiculous.

It's like when you go to your friend's house and his German Shepherd is growling and trying to bite you and you say, "Hey, can you get your vicious dog off me?" And he says, "Oh, he's a nice dog - he would never hurt anyone." All the while the dog is actually biting you.

Different era for Stephenson, plus this isn't outside WSU pressure; this is coming from WSU student athletes in today's world. Plus I think the precedent set with Adams kinda forces their hand or opens them up to litigation. But we'll see; Koch money buys lots of things.
