Simply UIC

Hey guys, don’t want this to come off the wrong way, but wanted to point it out for anyone that isn’t sure how to refer to UIC. They include this in every media guide for each game:

“Please use only the acronym UIC and the nickname Flames. Please refrain from using Illinois-Chicago, Ill.-Chicago, Illinois, Chicago, or any other variation. Thank you for your cooperation.”

Very few people in the media respect this wish, which is frustrating, but this is a long-time branding issue for UIC. Some people see that hyphen and assume the worst, which is ridiculous. So there has been a push for years to try to get people to use “UIC”.

UNI has been trying that for 40 years. Still hasn't stuck. Good luck.

I certainly get it. Try being part of the SIU system and having the media call you SIUC. We're not SIUC, we're the SIU. That other school is SIUe.

Good luck with that! Evansville has been known as UE since the late 60s yet a few members here will refer to Evansville as EU. Not because they aren't aware and it is not common knowledge.

I think I'm an asshole because after reading this, I spent alot of time trying to think how to best mess up the acronym.

ICU
Chicago Fires
U of IC

but so far nothing good has come to mind. :(

Do you have reading comprehension problems? He clearly said they were the Flames, not feathers.

That's because Evansville should be called Evansville. There would be no reason to create confusion by calling it by some letters.

University of Tulsa also goes by TU. Odd B12 country quirk.
