MVC Examiner Front Nine Awards

Postby 8ball » January 23rd, 2011, 11:48 pm

Here it is -- the Front Nine Awards as created and presented by the Missouri Valley Basketball Examiner. I'd be interested to hear the feedback of everyone who posted in the thread on this board about this topic.

Colt Ryan is not a first team player.

Who would you put in his place?

I think the kid is a stud... shooting the ball much better this year than last.

Only one I really disagree with is the 1st half Game of the Year. How can it not be the triple OT game in Wichita on Saturday between the Trees and Shox? That game had everything the game in Terre Haute did, plus two more periods. I'd even put the MSU-CU tilt Saturday afternoon up there as well. Other than that, good analysis I think.

Its an opinion piece and I think fair.

Since we are offering opinions I would vote for Missouri State's Cuonzo Martin as coach of the year. I agree that Colt Ryan is not having a year up to HIS standards. He is in the conversation and he is a really good player. Maybe if he is with a better team he does better? I think it is tougher for a player of his size to excel on a team like Evansville than it would be if he was on say Wichita State.

Mallett is at least 2nd team but probably 1st at this point IMO

In conference games he is...

8th in scoring
10th in rebounding
7th in FG%
11th in assist
9th in FT%
1st in 3PT%

Really no chance that lansing is COY without winning the conference outright and i would imagine that ISUb will end up 4th or 5th once its all said and done so you cant him COY.

It's not unheard of. In Gary Garner's first year at Drake (1981-82), he won MVC coach of the year despite the Bulldogs finishing in 5th or 6th place.

keep in mind that these aren't predictions for the rest of the season - rather an analysis of the past
