Shocker fans

Postby whiteandtheblue » March 5th, 2011, 4:51 pm

Just wanted to comment on the class of Shocker fans. As I was leaving the CU-MSU game bunch of Shocker fans lined up in the halls were taunting, jeering, pointing at me as I was carrying my 2 year old son in my arms. What a bunch of typical, classless display of sportsmanship. Would not have bothered me as much if I didnt have my son in my arms. Way to represent yourselves Shocker fan.

That doesn't surpise me, there is a reason the shockers are the most loathed team in the MVC.

I'm sorry to hear that you were treated that way, especially since you had your 2 year old with you. Unfortunately, every fanbase has classless fans. I've heard plenty of stories about classless things CU fans have done over the years.

Sorry to hear of your experience. All fanbases have bad apples. But I guess it stands to reason that since our fans represent our university with the largest numbers by far, that you might run into a few of those apples.

Perhaps you could have mocked the "Interlude" back in their face since that is the kind of classy thing Creighton fans do!

Ok, we all have fans who embarass us, including Evansville. I was not going to share this story, but................ after the Sycamores beat us, we sat dejected in our seats. A 40 something old Shocker fan walked by and said: "Evansville is the arm pit of the Valley."
We all kinda looked at each other. I know why he said it. The Shockers wanted to play us because we are viewed as an easier win. Truth be told, we are when we do not play well. I find it ironic that the Sycamores beat Evansville on a last shot and that the much better, deeper, and athletic Shockers did not fare well.

Here is my sensing as I remain in St Louis and walk around in my Evansville gear. Years ago the Saluki fans were a little to filled with themselves. The Shocker fans were just a little bit too confident, in the elevator, in the lobby, at the cafe, on the streets, etc, etc.

I live in Kansas and the Shockers are my favorite college team in Kansas and my 2nd favorite Valley team.
There is no difference between basketball and life. Give both your best and ignore the "fans" on the sideline.

At least Shocker fans show up for the tourney. That's more than most of our fanbases can say. I'm looking at myself and ISU Blue, yet again.

It's true that we all (bears included) have some jerks for fans. The larger the group the more jerks possible. I will say I have never met or seen a jerk fan from UNI, EU, or DU. EU, ISU blue and DU don't have enough fans to act bad but UNI does and the Trees have several this year too. Lack of humility (not too many beers) is what causes this. SIU, CU, ISU red, and BU have all gotten a little full of themselves at times. UNI is the only group that has been at or near the top consistently to stay humble. Congrats UNI! The Shox are the ones that amaze me. Other than turning out in huge numbers they really haven't got any reason to boast......but they (not most but the most) do. The complete jerk response by CU fans towards the UNI interlude dance (truly incredible that ALL fans participate) made me and my wife embarrased for CU. By in large almost all fans there are great. Maybe we should police ourselves for those bad apples.

The only thing that has ever upsets me about any fan is the feeling of a double standard. I dont want to use the example that first comes to mind because it will sound like I am rubbing it in the face of Shocker fans. I just know that a few like to get onto tree fans for not showing up after a loss...But hey everyone has some bad apples god knows our fanbase can be a little over anxious in wanting to get some perceived revenge lol...Its ok tho...

NO ONE CARES HOW MANY FANS YOU BRING!

In fact, because your fans are so obnoxious while there, you automatically have 9 fan bases cheering for whoever is playing against WSU.

That said, I didn't have any bad experiences today, but we left at halftime of the WSU v ISU game.
